3500 troops on Russian border is nothing but show. What are they going to do when they are outnumbered 50+ to one? All of Russia’s military can be utilized, as it is their home turf. Plus, Russia is now and has long had entrenched border security, complete with an up and running, modern networked anti-air system.
Don’t forget, the Desert Storm Surge took 6 months to get going once ordered, and that was only 10,000 troops. We need way more than that if we want to start something, unless we want to invade France.
The troops in Poland can act to deter a quick border move, but they are not in any way an offensive force.

It wouldn’t work: 1) Obama wouldn’t be able to find U.S. soldiers dumb enough to pull it off. 2) Poland would say, “Hell NO!” because they know their country would be the battleground. 3) In an age of cell phone cameras everywhere this would be harder to pull off than many people think.
Something else DJT and Putin know - and likely Poles as well - Russia’s war policy is: if attacked with conventional weapons, they will respond with nuclear.
So any putative war 0bama starts will go nuclear at once. All bets are off here.

Putin has been schooling bammy in world politics and power with boring regularity. I believe Putin would see right through bammy’s play for an extended Presidency/dictatorship and or a petty attempt at starting trouble for President-elect Trump...and he would take bammy to school one last time. Putin would simply refuse to participate. He’d publicly proclaim that warfare, costing billions of dollars and thousands of lives was not justified based on thin or no evidence whatsoever....that this was obviously a mistake...etc. etc. He’d once again take the high road, and show bammy and crew to be the petulant amatures that they are.
My own family, southern, religious, fairly conservative despite many of them still being Democrats, are totally unaware of the US troop movement to the Russian border. They rely largely upon the MSM and I suppose to some extent Democrat websites.
They don’t believe me when I tell them that both Obama and Hillary Clinton want war with Russia. They somehow think Trump is the danger as far as war with Russia, while simultaneously thinking he’s some sort of Russian puppet.
It’s weird and it’s dangerous. Complete and total disconnect between the right and the left, they don’t even know let alone acknowledge wide swathes of what’s actually occurring in this country and in the world at large.
They’re not stupid people, either. They just believe the established media and the current government, largely as we ourselves did up until, what, around ten years ago? That’s when I started to seriously question all of the so-called institutions responsible for public opinion. I had doubts before, but along about the beginning of W’s second term is when it all started to click, for me.
Trump’s presidency is going to be four years of predictions the next total collapse and how he will be removed from office. I guess our government is responsible for the complete lack of trust, but vigilance doesn’t require crisis.
