These guys really are fools.

1. The FBI would have told them that 30% of sales during this administration were to new gun owners. Since previous estimates by the FBI was 80 million, a baseline would be 132 million including private transfers.

2. The estimate for guns in civilian hands is from 400 million to 450 million based on historical data and sales over the last 8 years.

2. The actual trend in the study is that more people lie to pollsters.

The sweet spot for Marlin 60’s is from 1980 to 1984, serial numbers starting with 20 through staring with 16. They used a serial number range that went down as the years went on from 1973-late 90’s. Subtracting the first two digits from 100 gives you the year of manufacture. 20 = 1980, 16 = 1984
The 80-84 models had the 22” barrel, full 18 round magazine and no last shot bolt hold open with the newer improved feedthroat. In 1985 they added the last shot bolt hold open, later they shorted the magazine to 14 rounds, and still later they shortened the barrel to 19”.

I've tried to count up mine. I realize now, I'm not up to the task.

And how do you count multiple barrel firearms, like the Contender, and the H&R single shots?

And do the black powder cannons count?

And how about Coehorn Mortars?

And flare pistols?

I give up.

“Maybe you are just above average.”

Are we still talking about guns?

If you know how many guns you have, you don’t have enough!

I can literally count on one hand the amount of adults that I know, whether it is friends, family, or work, that profess to NOT owning any firearms. One of those that is on that list has been asking me about how to purchase a handgun and what should she buy.

“8.1 guns per owner”

That’s per caliber, right? I have that many in 9mm.

...8.1 guns per household.

That's the average?

Guess if I want to be "average", I need to get rid of a hell of a lot of guns, huh?

Keep guessing liberals.

I've tried to count up mine. I realize now, I'm not up to the task.

Usually, I can figure out how many we have in my head by first thinking of how many shotguns we have, then rifles, then handguns, and then air rifles. Sometimes it helps to think of how many are stored in different locations, or the ones which were presents to my wife on Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Christmas, or her Birthday. It is most difficult to remember the guns where we have two, three, four or more of the same type.

So yes it can be tough, but if I were called by some phone survey person I would deny having any guns. But the guns we own are fun to own, fun to shoot, fun to maintain, and fun to take apart and put back together. A lot of them have a great deal of historical significance. How can you not love the thought that went in to the designs and the manufacturing process?

Based on my number if wi-to devices I have, on average at least 6-7 guns for the average gun owner I would imagine.

True. These numbers and studies are extremely complicated and hard to figure out.

Gun owners I know are keeping unregistered guns of all kinds.

They are also buying ammunition the same way

First, I think the number of guns at 265 million is low, especially based on background checks in the past 8 years, not to mention spikes that took place when Clinton entered office and after 9/11. Secondly, a recent study indicated that gun ownership had increased, and we all know this only covers those that admit to it. My theory is that these researchers understated both gun ownership and the number of guns, resulting in more guns per individual if you accept a constant number of guns. I leave it up to you to determine their intent other than to brand gun owners as crazies. In reality, I would simply say there are more guns and owners than could ever be purged, and I consider that a major strength of America.
