A Historic Number of Electors Defected, and Most Were Supposed to Vote for Clinton
The New York Times ^ | 12/19/2016 | KIERSTEN SCHMIDT and WILSON ANDREWS

The Electoral College on Monday voted for Donald J. Trump to win the presidency. Seven electors, the most ever, voted for someone other than their party’s nominee.

In Washington, a state where Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont had strong support in the Democratic primary against Hillary Clinton, three of the state’s 12 electoral votes went to Colin L. Powell, the Republican former secretary of state. One more elector voted for Faith Spotted Eagle, a Native American leader. Another Democratic elector in Hawaii voted for Mr. Sanders.

Two Texas electors voted for different Republican politicians: Gov. John Kasich of Ohio and former Texas congressman Ron Paul.

I thought the “historic” number was 23....Virginia electors in 1836.

Times publishes the truth often, with their own colorful adjectives:
“SCUMBAG Donald J Trump wins electoral college because Americans are dumb, electoral college is stupid, and people suck”.

Not counting Andrew Johnson in 1864, who technically was still a Democrat when Lincoln’s Republican electors voted for him, this is the first time in history electors have voted for someone in the other party.

Agreed. There isn’t anything to cheer about at all. And I see the nyt trying to be smug as if to say “see our campaign to screw with the EC worked”
Texas better get to work revising their election laws.

“*TOTAL SAVINGS: $2.5 Trillion over Ten Years”

That’s 250 Billion a year. Or 3 F35’s. /that’s a joke.

Every stage of victory is just more delicious than the last.

************

The Dems are terrified that Trump will succeed big league and make them look bad. They truly fear and loathe him because they realize they are at risk of being consigned to the political wilderness for a long time to come. America is ready to move on and become great again. The country is going in another direction and its not to the left anymore.

Though is didn’t hurt the Trump cause ... it is setting a disturbing trend and needs to be nipped in the bud.

It will be. I suspect that future candidates from both parties are going to be much more choosy about who they designate as their electors for the 2020 election. Remember, all these electors were approved by either Trump or Clinton's campaign. However, the vetting they received was likely just a pro-forma look or someone vouching that a prospective elector was actually a supporter.

IIRC, Mr. Suprin in Texas served in a local GOP position. Being an elector was likely seen as a reward for service. I suspect that next time, each campaign will ensure that only loyalists are selected.

should there ever be another successful Rat candidate

We need to be extremely careful. The RAT party isn't like the GOPe. The RATs will learn from their mistakes. They'll field a candidate that unites. I wonder how this election would have turned out had Hildebeast not had them by the balls? I wonder how Sanders would have done?

If Trump does the right things, he's going to alienate the RATs. If nothing else, because they're clinically insane.

I agree completely. States which prescribe consequences for Electors who disregard the majority vote in their state need to enforce them. I do not want this precedent to be set. It’s all fun and games that Hillary is further humiliated, but at the price of setting aside the rule of law, no thanks.

NY Times won’t let me on their site

in sum - Hillary lost 5 while Trump lost 2?

Is that correct?

I was watching FOX yesterday, and they were talking about the two electors in TX who had voted against Trump. They made sure to announce that Trump’s EC vote had dropped to 304. They went on to mention that some electors had not voted for Clinton, but they continued to report that her EV count was 232, when they should have dropped it to 227.

Or, think about it. Carlos Slim and Bezos may just decide to quit pissing cash down a Rat hole and start making money at the Times and Post. Turn their editorial staff 180 and hire some real journalists and presto! The Rats are history.

Faithless electors are annoying for fifteen minutes.

Jill Stein getting skunked by Faith Spotted Eagle is a joy forever.

I have been looking at Trump through the Scott Adams blog perspective. Adams expects Trump’s approval rating to go way up by summer, because he sees Trump as a master persuader.
