In late September, Richardson announced that the Navy would be getting rid of all of their enlisted ratings and that the service would be headed in a new direction.
Military officials said that the purpose for the change is so that service members can more easily adjust to civilian life and no longer be defined by their job titles by broadening their career fields. The decision received a great deal of backlash from sailors since Navy ratings have been around for centuries.
The ratings system was also scrapped because of Navy Secretary Ray Mabuss order to make ratings gender neutral and take words such as man out of their titles, like Fire Controlman 1st Class John Doe, for example.

Mabus needs to be the first one to go. Put in a traditional minded SECNAV and CNO. Basically the same rebuilding that had to happen in 1981 after the Ford/Carter terms. The recovery this time will take longer because the damage has been ongoing an entire military career cycle. New recruits will be needed and senior NCO’s and officers will need to do some weeding out as well.
Uniparty media underestimated Clintons high negatives and thought she would win, too.
Works for me.
The homosexual issue has reversed thousands of years of civilization’s accepted norms.
This dumps several hundred years of tradition.
I think this is more about causing societal upheaval than anything else.
I see these as evil measures. They are not needed. Women wanted to join the services, and now we’re supposed to change the services to suit them. How does that work? Have they changed anything for the men? I’m sure they could come up with some things.
I wouldn’t want them to change things. There’s a fine tradition, and when you change it, there is no gold standard any longer.
Five years later you change it again. Pretty soon you’ve got mush for military codes of conduct and standardized titles.
And while you’re at it, give the Rangers back their black berets. Enough of this crap.
Trump is just begging for the inaguration, You’re Fired! Is going to fly out of his mouth as soon as he says, “So Help Me God!”
When I was in in the late 60’s and 70’s the enlisted men took pride in their ratings regardless if the were Boatsun mates, Radiomen, Signalmen, Boiler Techs are what ever! They knew they had won the right to wear that rating and you could always tell what job a sailor did! I was an RM2 in three years and I was proud of it! The officers don’t have ratings so maybe they are just jealous!
In what thankfully will soon be remembered as ancient times, the Emperor obama sought to eliminate all traditions and initiate a Social Revolution on a par with that of his hero, Lenin.
His minions, seeking to curry favor with this demented *sshat, followed suit.
Luckily for us, the Revolution failed, and now obama is floating away on the currents of history to assume his rightful place as By Far The Worst President in the Entire History of the United States.
Oh yeah Mabus...This guy who sounds like Bill Clinton will finally be gone.
>>It is almost beyond belief. This is what happens when the liberals are in charge.
They live in a fantasy world. Then they ridicule us for believing in God.
If a person can’t adjust to civilian jobs because she has a Navy rating, then that’s not the rating’s fault.
gots to wonder how many competent military personnel were sacked in favor of these social experimenter types by this very stupid magic negro?
Trump will make the last 8 years look like Blight being hauled to the dump.
Reminds me of Bill Whittle's excellent video on this weird mindset "It's The Steel"
What a load of crapola. Any Chief Petty Officer in the Navy could have told him it was a crappy idea.
I think these turd herders are more concerned with Semen than Seaman.
General McPeak did the same thing for the AF 25 years ago. He changed all of our specialty codes and regulations. I imagine the total cost was in the billions. The AF had to rewrite regulations, manuals, pamphlets, forms, signs, etc. Things were in total chaos for several years after that.
I was on a team that worked on the pre-runner for the Navy change-over after I retired from the AF. My job was to cross-reference Navy ratings and codes to Department of Labor job descriptions so potential employers could decrypt it.
They also need three kinds of shoe polish- black, brown and white! < /black shoe navy vet >
Remember when they tried to Ban Bellbottemed pants? The USN is a conservative service. It took a while to get them to stop using sails and go for steam after all. Its part of who they are—just as using foul language and tattoos.
I don’t remember them trying to ban bell bottoms. Must have been outside of my Navy years.
