Former Governor Romney was one of Donald Trump’s harshest critics during the election. He assisted his opponents and was essentially working to get Hillary Clinton elected.

Donald Trump met with Mitt Romney in New Jersey last week. Sources said he was interviewing for the Secretary of State position with the Trump administration.

Trump supporters HATE the idea.

Now this… Transition Team sources told Ed Henry from FOX News that Mitt Romney is preparing a public apology. Mitt Romney is reportedly very interested in the Secretary of State job.

Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney and Reince holding some of the most powerful positions in government is a disaster.

You have an excellent point. I am deeply opposed to Romney, but had not considered this aspect of why he's a serious problem. I believe we are seeing Pence's influence here and hope he is not going to turn out to be the leader of what would amount to an establishment shadow government working behind Trump's back.

Like other FReepers, I wonder why Rudy Giulani appears to be out of the running for the post when he was so loyal to Trump. The rumor is that he has "lost a step," but I wonder if that has been floated by the Romney cabal. Rudy doesn't appear to be lacking any mental or physical capabilities when he appears on TV.

I don’t think Giuliani has lost a step, the articles I read talked about a conflict of interests with prior issues but I thought in most cases, these kinds of things could be worked out.

Do you realize that Donald Trump and Michael Pence, in victory, is uniting and expanding the Republican party ?

Not Tired of Winning !

Scott Walker and Paul Ryan, thanks in no small part to mediation from Michael Pence, criss crossed Wisconsin in the final week, promoting the entire GOP ticket, after the Trump campaign had essentially given up on Wisconsin in favor of PA, MI, and MN ?

FoxNews called Wisconsin before Iowa !

When Wisconsin was called Trump won the Presidency !!

Donald Trump, thank God, is doing a fabulous job of uniting people, even offering a path to political redemption for people who avidly opposed him, like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Mitt Romney.

If President Elect Trump chooses Mitt Romney as SOS, I expect Romney to serve him well.

Romney is smart enough to know that is a good platform to primary Trump in 2020.

This can very quickly turn into a shadow GOPe government. Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney and Reince holding some of the most powerful positions in government is a disaster.
_______________________________________________________

Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, Reince, the only one missing is Scott Walker. That group....lead by Romney.... are a recipe for a BIG LEAGUE backstabbing.

Whoever is leading Trump in this disastrous direction should be canned, ASAP!

And someone close to him needs to refresh his memory with the “snake poem.”

Perhaps because Rudy is and always has been both part of the problem and a disasterous scandal waiting to explode.

I can accept all of what you said except for your belief in Romney. He has proven himself completely unworthy of trust. Many things can be "walked back," but not what he did in his infamous and totally uncalled for speech a mere eight months ago. Romney gave his bilious screed with a smile, no less. If you haven't already done so, listen to Romney's screed again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMR6mgTv8dUh

It was incredibly mean spirited and vile. In my view, it is unforgivable.

We fought against that crap. It’s just like the Republicans getting elected and doing what the Dems do but then it’s ok because “At we’re in charge”. Bogus, I don’t want the Bill Kristol’s of the world to be happy with the direction of the country because I know the direction they want to take the country

You really need to stop playing checkers and start playing chess. A unified GOP led by Trump will be able to isolate and destroy the likes of Linda Graham when he tries to sabotage Trump. President Trump will be in a much weaker position should he continue to fight primary battles.

Trump’s election demonstrates that the money raised by failed candidates is irrelevant. You can always find people who will throw money down the drain.

Trump’s election was the greatest upset since Harry Truman. Even greater considering Truman was a sitting POTUS and Trump never held elective office. I’m afraid it proves nothing until repeated.

your belief in Romney.

I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all that is, seen and unseen.

We have seen a miracle. I respect Donald Trump's talent to choose his cabinet.

It was incredibly mean spirited and vile. In my view, it is unforgivable.

It was wrong; there is only one unforgivable sin. I believe in redemption. Pray without ceasing that God will show us mercy. I am so grateful to Him that Hillary Clinton is not our next President.

as angry as I am at Romney. there is an ugly truth. it is better to have him in camp along those who are his supporters then to have him an outside agitator. if you thought the behavior of the left was brutal in the election wait till trump actually starts implementing everything he wants to implement. to do what he needs trump needs highly qualified people and he needs people that are not scared to call him on the carpet. that means a very diverse group politically and it means trying to work with what he has.in my opinion Trump is very good at reading people and if Romney is not working out he will just get rid of him and put in someone else. at this point we need someone like Romney because he is sure of himself and highly competent. I am guessing that if there was no meeting of the minds on foreign policy neither would want to work together so lets just wait and not tear are selves apart right now.

Exactly. The really “enemy” now is the traitors in the GOP Senate prepping to torpedo the Trump agenda. If President Trump can outflank them by consolidating the GOP under his control they will be in a much weaker position to stop the Trump agenda.

Several nights ago, Lou Dobbs warned Trump that Romney IS the snake that Trump read about, at his rallies.

I agree with Lou.

Its sackcloth and ashes time. He needs to humble himself and fall to his knees before Trump and beg for forgiveness—and even that night not be enough for the Sec. of State Job—he would do better than Kerry.

When I first hear that Trump was interviewing Romney I was definitely perplexed.
However....Romney has experience raising money not only for himself but for other politicians. This one skill alone will go a long way in getting Congress to vote for Trump’s agenda. It is better to have Romney on the team.

Yep. 2018 is just around the corner. And the GOP is poised to apply the coup de grace to the demofascist party. Romney has a donor network that is loyal to him. Co-opting that will only benefit President Trump and by extension us.

Dobbs is probably right. While Romney undoubtedly has useful skills and talent, his savaging of Trump was the worst I’ve seen. Hard to convince anyone he’s honestly seen the light.

Meanwhile, it seems Petraeus is getting a strong look now.

He’s said he’d be happy to work in this administration.

In my book Perseus is worse then Romney!

He behaved irresponsibly while commander in the Afghan theater & allowed himself to be compromised by Zero & pals.

“Lots to consider. But the real question I have is, what is it that makes Trump want Romney enough that he’d overlook what’s been said..”

It’s got to be something. Something pretty appealing or special that he sees in Romney, because Romney certainly was a huge jerk.

I don’t know, but it shows me that trump is capable of just setting aside bad blood and walking away from it, and that impresses me.

I have been able to do that a time or two in my life, but not always. I’ve got a temper, people have done things that really, really anger me.

In fact, this one person I know, an man older than me, did something so outrageous, so offensive, and it was also in fact criminal, a felony that involved theft of a huge amount of money, and he stole it at the worst most hideously offensive and outrageous time that he could.

And even though I recovered this money from him by way of a lawsuit, and he was threatened with criminal prosecution as well, which he would have been convicted of, when he asked me to cease pursuing him, I did.

I could have hounded him to the ends of the earth had I wanted to, but I set it aside and walked away.

It’s easier and better to forgive than it is to carry the burden of anger. This man, despite being a scoundrel, had also done some things in the time that I knew him that I respect and thank him for. He did some good.

Like I know he went well out of his way to use his skills to save some dying cats, like building an oxygen tent for a cat with pneumonia, so there is some good in there.

To be able to forgive is a virtue, I believe, and I’m happy to see it in Trump.

As far as Homeland Security goes, I’d love to see him select Sheriff Clarke and his cowboy hat for that.
