he knows he served with honor in Vietnam. She knows he loved cooking and Bruce Springsteen. She knows he died lonely in Casper.
But thats about all Natrona County Coroner Connie Jacobson knows for certain about Stephen Carl Reiman, a 63-year-old homeless Navy veteran who died Thursday at Wyoming Medical Center. Her office has looked for a friend or a family member to claim Reiman. They havent found anyone.
The other thing Jacobson knows is that Reiman needs to be buried with respect. And that he shouldnt be alone.
Reiman came to Wyoming from a Southern California community for homeless veterans. He served in the Navy from 1971 to 1975, his last post aboard the U.S.S. Long Beach. Reiman had previously told a VA doctor that he had struggled with PTSD, depression and alcoholism, Jacobson said. Those symptoms worsened when Reimans only son died in combat in Iraq, Jacobson said, and Reiman became incapable of working. He depended on the VA for housing, income and health care.
RIP.
So sad.
Hopefully, he was buried beside his son.
RIP brother.... you will never be alone.
RIP
The best bet is to find out where he was stationed. His unit or ship likely has an associated veterans organization, and they typically send out notifications to members about deaths, which is a good final chance to reconnect.
Hope they have the Patriot Guard at the ceremony, "Standing For Those Who Stood For Us".
We should never let DemonRats conduct a war ever again - not winning breaks a soldiers spirit!
So sad.. the VA, and most helalthcare institutions have abysmal records when it comes to treating patients with psych needs. I never knew how horrible and depressing my life was til I went to a Godless counselor a few times. It did wreck things for a while, but I went back and saw what happened. I think it was an addiction to get counseling those couple of months.
He won’t be buried until next Tuesday and just outside of Casper. It’s unlikely the son is interred there, since the gentleman moved to the state recently with no connections there.
Are you listening,President Trump?
Go with God sailor, RIP, thank you for serving.
All she needs do is reah out to the American Legion Riders, VFW or several other veteran groups.
Prayers to him. He is a hero. Wish he was treated better...by the VA...
Something about this story doesn’t make sense. How did he acquire PTSD as a shipboard sailor? If he had a bank account as stated, it should provide all of the information needed if he provided such information to the bank. It is a sad article but poorly researched.
“How did he acquire PTSD as a shipboard sailor?”......
Note that he served “in the Navy from 1971 to 1975, his last post aboard the U.S.S. Long Beach”........
Having been in the Navy myself, sailors can/do serve both aboard ship and “a shore” (as we called it). The article did NOT say he never served a shore. Judge not unless you can back it up. A brother veteran has died, my he R.I.P.
PTSD - it’s where the money is.
I've never served in,or near, combat so I can't speak from personal experience. However,my sister-in-law's father was a WWII vet and he had it.She didn't tell me,at least, the stories until after both he and her mother died.Nightmares...crying spells...fears.He was a great guy and managed to make a good living for his family but he did suffer...both in Europe and after he got home.
Do some guys try to scam the system? Probably. But if you're trying to claim that all such claims are phony I'll have you talk to my s-i-l.
Just sayin....
Sure, shell shock is real. But the WWII vets had to come home, get a job, and get on with life, generally self medicating with alcohol.
Now, it has morphed into PTSD which has become a financial windfall for veterans and the medical profession that’s really doing very little to help them.
Yell “Trump” on a college campus, and half the students will be claiming PTSD benefits.
So yes, Shell Shock is real. PTSD is a scam.
