A historian has discovered a royal decree issued to Donald Trumps grandfather ordering him to leave Germany and never come back.
Friedrich Trump, a German, was issued with the document in February 1905, and ordered to leave the kingdom of Bavaria within eight weeks as punishment for having failed to do mandatory military service and failing to give authorities notice of his departure to the US when he first emigrated in 1885.
Kallstadt, Germany: on the trail of 'the Donald' in the Trump ancestral home Read more Roland Paul, a historian from Rhineland-Palatinate who found the document in local archives, told the tabloid Bild: Friedrich Trump emigrated from Germany to the USA in 1885. However, he failed to de-register from his homeland and had not carried out his military service, which is why the authorities rejected his attempt at repatriation.
The decree orders the American citizen and pensioner Friedrich Trump to leave the area at the very latest on 1 May ... or else expect to be deported. Bild called the archive find an unspectacular piece of paper, that had nevertheless changed world history.
Trump was born in Kallstadt, now in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, in 1869. He emigrated to the US aged 16 initially to escape poverty, attracted by the gold rush.

“Guardian is such a communist rag.”
It is.
Guardian can have good news reports with well written factual information - often slanted.
Their political articles are heavily slanted and skewed, absurdly so in many cases.
They can have good coverage on non-political topics such as literature or music. Of course those topics can and are tainted by their leftism as well.
This article, for example, is not a bad article. In fact, it’s of real historical interest and seems solid. What’s bad and ludicrous is the underlying message it wants to convey.

Yea, I know someone who’s grandfather was put on a boat to America, by his parents, to escape the Kaiser as well. I forget how old he was. Maybe 15. I think the money for his passage plus maybe a little extra, was all the family could spare.
He did well here.
Now you’ve gone and hurt my feelings.
Many, many young men came to this country to avoid the draft or some other issue in their homeland. It is in almost everyone’s genealogy at some point if you look deep enough.
Thousands escaped from conscription in almost every country, not just Germany. More than a few 16 year old boys were sent here by their families to avoid having to go to an unpopular war for their king, the Czar, etc.
If the timing was not right for them, some of these boys found themselves going right into America’s wars, instead.
It’s not bogus.

Interestingly the Heinz family came from the same village.
Although I did just trick you into admitting that Trump wants to register Palestinians.
Oh, bless your little heart. It’ll be OK.
No, I want a therapy dog. And crayons.
Most of the upper Midwest’s came just after 1848 after serving on one side in the 1848-9 German revolution.
Bubba’s father is lost to history. His mom’s husband, Billy Blythe, was home from the war 6 months when little Billy was born. Mom claimed he was born early. Yeah, right. Mr. Blythe was killed in a car wreck not long after that (first Arkancide?) and mom later married a guy named Clinton. That’s how we get a President Clinton instead of Blythe or President Bastard.
They’re trying hard....
Yup, Bavaria’s loss is our gain.
I heard Bill’s father was a man named Bill Russel, he was a track guy at Thistledown, his mom was well known at the racetracks. She brought little Bill up to Thistledown a few times to see his real dad.
I thought it was kinda cute.
