This is How Steve Bannon Sees the Entire World

The soon-to-be White House chief strategist laid out a global vision in a rare 2014 talk, one where he said racism in the far right gets “washed out” and called Vladimir Putin a kleptocrat. BuzzFeed News publishes the complete transcript for the first time.

Well before victories for Brexit and Trump seemed possible, Bannon declared there was a “global tea party movement” and praised European far-right parties like Great Britain’s UKIP and France’s National Front. Bannon also suggested that a racist element in far-right parties “all gets kind of washed out,” that the West was facing a “crisis of capitalism” after losing its “Judeo-Christian foundation,” and he blasted “crony capitalists” in Washington for failing to prosecute bank executives over the financial crisis.

The remarks — beamed into a small conference room in a 15th-century marble palace in a secluded corner of the Vatican — were part of a 50-minute Q&A during a conference focused on poverty hosted by the Human Dignity Institute, which BuzzFeed News attended as part of its coverage of the rise of Europe’s religious right. The group was founded by Benjamin Harnwell, a longtime aide to Conservative member of the European Parliament Nirj Deva to promote a “Christian voice” in European politics. The group has ties to some of the most conservative factions inside the Catholic Church; Cardinal Raymond Burke, one of the most vocal critics of Pope Francis who was ousted from a senior Vatican position in 2014, is chair of the group’s advisory board.

The transcript begins 90 seconds into the then-Breitbart News chairman’s remarks because microphone placement made the opening mostly unintelligible, but you can hear the whole recording at the bottom of the post.

Here is what he said, unedited:

I hope BuzzFeed is an accepted site. Great insight into this "controversial" man. He seems pretty level headed to me!

NPR was raking him and Breitbart over the coals with innuendo tonight. Pretty shocking, actually.

...and he blasted “crony capitalists” in Washington for failing to prosecute bank executives over the financial crisis.

I don't know what that means, but. the real culprit has a D after their name and they took over Congress in '06. Just look at the remarks of Maxine Waters and Barney Fag.

In another article, Bannon demonstrated he clearly understood our corrupt budgeting system --baseline budgeting--in which the current year's budget is the starting point and grows from there....year after year.

In fact, the 2009 stimulus fell into the baseline budget system, adding almost a trillion to the budget annually ever since. That meant lots of money for all stripes to spend, so no one bothered to submit and pass a budget for 7 friggin years !

That must stop. Bannon / Trump will, imho.

I just read the article in its entirety and I completely agree with each and every point that Bannon made in his talk. He has a grasp of capitalism - understanding that today's version of capitalism operates in an immoral manner (i.e. secular) and feels nothing for the humans behind 'human capital." It was not always like that, and he believes that the missing component is the moral compass created by having Judeo-Christian values.

He is correct.

I was impressed by the depth of his though.

A very good match with the Trump agenda.

I read the entire article, and mostly I am impressed. One quibble I would have is that I think the bailouts discussed are only one of many ways in which the middle class is being drained.

If one goes to the comments, a lot of them are from so-called intellectuals who are, well, fools. If not for the Judeo-Christians, the radical Muslims will do to these fools things that make the Japanese in WW2 look like choirboys.

At any rate, the interview itself is well worth the time to read, and to send to anyone that one can.

I agree.

The difference between normal radio and public radio is that ordinary radio has commercials where advertisers try to sell you something of value. Public radio just begs you to send them money directly for nothing of value, which is even more annoying than the ads.

It is unfortunate that the “never Bannon” mob have not the intelligence, patience, willingness, or perspective to read and comprehend this. Bannon does not think in twitter-bytes.
