Fire on Plane Caused by Replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Over the past few weeks, Samsung has been replacing recalled Galaxy Note 7 smartphones that have faulty exploding batteries with new devices, but an incident today suggests the South Korean company's smartphone woes aren't over.

A Southwest flight from Louisville to Baltimore was today evacuated just before it pulled out of the gate because a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone started smoking. While no one was injured, there is a serious problem -- the Galaxy Note 7 in question was a replacement device that had been deemed "safe" by Samsung.

According to The Verge, the owner of the Galaxy Note 7, Brian Green, had replaced his original Galaxy Note at an AT&T store on September 21. The smartphone had a green battery icon and box the device came in features a black square, both of which are indicators of a replacement Note 7.

Green told The Verge he had powered down the phone as requested by the flight crew and stowed it in his pocket before it started smoking. "...He dropped it on the floor of the plane and a "thick grey-green angry smoke" was pouring out of the device. Green's colleague went back onto the plane to retrieve some personal belongings and said that the phone had burned through the carpet and scorched the subfloor of the plane.

He said the phone was at around 80 percent of battery capacity when the incident occurred and that he only used a wireless charger since receiving the device...."

This is misuse of the new Firestarter app!

This is why they need the big battery - to help you in survival situations.

I imagine this person was playing with their phone and thought they'd give it a try.

Every flight Mr. Mercat and I were on in our recent travels said that these had to be completely turned off. I predict that next they will not be allowed on board.

An investigation of the 125 or so faulty batteries out of millions sold revealed the complainants were possible shills for a competitor.

I smell corporate dirty crap going on here.

These particular phones should be banned from planes. Samsung needs to replace them all with the previous model. This one is a failure. Samsung’s gonna have to eat them all.

Well, you can believe whatever you want that Samsung promulgates -— the Samsung Galaxy phone from the Southwest Airlines flight is in the hands of the Louisville Fire Department’s arson unit. I’ll believe the arson investigators over Samsung any day.

Gee thanks for allowing me to believe what my eyes have seen in the category of corporate sabotage.

Late last year during the holiday shopping season I was exploring Lumia phones running Microsoft Windows or Windows phones for short. I went to Best Buy Mobile in Northgate and saw all the Windows phones lined up and not working with charging receptacles plugged with aluminum foil (which shorts the internal charging circuits), cracked screens, power on buttons superglued shut.

I asked what the hell was going on and was told the store had a problem with vandalism. None of the Apple phones was touched, and no Android phones were touched, only Windows phones.

I headed down I5 and I405 a distance of 22 miles and a 40 minute drive with traffic to check out Fry’s electronics sales on 120Hz 1080p 55” screens, and while there I checked their new Windows phone line up. Same thing.

Can you tell me that corporate sabotage does not exist?

Samsung has been manufacturing their phones for a long time without problems and they surely know the chemical properties of their materials and batteries, The did a massive recall and diligently followed up on the few rare fire complaints and found those reports appeared to be fake.

Now they have a smoking device on an airliner.

I smell bullsh*t.

While no one was injured, there is a serious problem -- the Galaxy Note 7 in question was a replacement device that had been deemed "safe" by Samsung.

Samsung will do anything to push sales, even deeming highly defective phones as "safe". As in, keep in a safe to protect your house from burning down, hopefully with no valuables inside the safe. iPhones are still safe next to the family jewels or your head. Samsung Galaxy Note 7, biggest phone disaster ever.

Some video game added the Samsung Note 7 and uses it as a grenade.
