Students at Ramapo College were recently forced to change the theme of an "American BBQ" because the administration deemed it too "offensive." .
.
Gilson followed up by asking why the American theme was considered offensive, and if the concerns came from fellow students or administration.

"To be honest, I'm not sure. I think it was administrative," Rivera replied. "I was told that our advertising was too 'military and recruitment-oriented,' because we had the Uncle Sam saying 'I want you…' I think?

“Trump stopped in at Stamey’s Barbecue in Greensboro NC this week.”

Stamey’s is a far cry from what it was 30 years ago. The last time I got take out I ended up emailing the owner how disappointed I was and he gave me a freebie.

Tried it a week later and it was just as bad.

Maybe it was the fried chicken collard greens and watermellon they served?

Sorry to hear that. I’ve only been once or twice in the last few years.

What the hell is a “standard BBQ” if not American BBQ?

Really, is there any other BBQ? And do these morons know it?

Go to Texas, go to Louisiana, go to Kansas City — and you’ll find three very different ideas of what constitutes BBQ.

As Michael Scott said, “that’s offensive!”

Don’t forget South Carolina’s mustard based barbecue!

Santa Maria, Calif. has a radically different concept of BBQ. Grilled tri-tip with garlic salt and pepper--no BBQ sauce--along with pinto beans and salsa on the side.

I took a couple of courses at Ramapo College long ago. They also had one of the largest car shows in the NE every June, until they replaced the soccer fields with more campus buildings.

I haven’t encountered too many regional variants of barbecue that aren’t good, if quality ingredients are used and it’s well-prepared. The only one I actively dislike is South Carolina style with a mustard-based sauce. The pork is cooked until it’s practically mush.

I spent a long weekend in Santa Maria in 2007. I wish I had heard about that place. It sounds like Mexican or Tex-Mex BBQ.

SC mustard mush is the only barbecue style that I just cannot stand. Everybody else’s is good, even Alabama style with white sauce.
