We absolutely do not want illegals filling for prior years tax returns. There IS this thing, artfully called the “earned income” tax credit.
I sort of like some variation of Ben Carson’s plan. Require all here illegally to register with proof of their time in country within a specified time frame. Once we know who and where they are, decide how to handle these people on a case by case basis. Those who do not declare are subject to deportation upon contact with law enforcement. Not perfect, but it’s a start.
As someone else here said, our government is implicit with inviting illegals here. To many, they did not view coming here so much as breaking the law, but rather playing the game our country has encouraged.
Ridding the country of illegals will have to be done incrementally. For example, if we deported 15 million in six months, the housing industry would collapse. They didn’t invade overnight, and we can not correct this overnight either.

That “Case by case “ basis is daunting but it might well have to be the answer. Like you said, many of these people came because they agreed to the “wink-nod” we sent them. Beelow didn’t come over here thinking he was a lawbreaker. He was invited, somehow and some way. Well sanctuary cities, well hey, THERE’S a clue. The illegal immigrants did not invent sanctuary cities.

If we just sent all the prisoners in our system to Mexico and Latin America home countries... that would generate millions! Easily identified by just following their phone bills....criminal records....and NSA.
