The author should ask her niece if she would like to be forced to "think correctly" about the proper role of women from the Muslim perspective. Or about any other opinion with which she vehemently disagrees.
I think that many young people take freedom so much for granted that they imagine that in the totalitarian "utopia" they wish for, they would have the same freedoms they have now. It is literally impossible for them to picture what life without freedom would be like.
Used to be calling someone racist was very extreme and could ruin someone's career and/or life.
But they have worn out their welcome by overusing this verbal weapon so much, that most Americans see it as just the Left being unable to hold their own in an argument and resorting to throwing ad hominem slurs at their opponent.
Being call a racist by the liberal Left is proof that you've won the argument because "they got nothing else".

I have long since noticed that if you disagree with a conservative, he’ll argue with you. Disagree with a liberal, he’ll characterize you.
Or simply ignore them.
Left-wingers (and I’ve known many) are the most intollerent people in this country as a general rule. With just a few occasional exceptions here and there, they encourage each other to think exactly the same on large matters of significance (although they are happy to debate over little irrelevant details, just so long as you are on the “correct” side).
In their closed-mindedness, stereotyping, and hypocrisy, they promote intollerence toward those with different opinions and worldviews and those from various unfavored groups (conservatives, Christians, heterosexuals, whites, minorities who don’t tow the ideologically leftist line, Southerners, people from the heartland, country folk, those in small towns, unorthodox thinkers who are not on the left, gun owners, non-criminals, etc.).
The left has a small number of peoples whom they believe tolerance toward is the greatest good achievable by mankind, but their “tolerance” does not apply to most Americans and their promotion of “diversity” is the most superficial possible. They actually want everyone to be mental automatons marching in lockstep on any issue that really matters.
