SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Jerry Brown took a strong stand against coal on Friday, approving an East Bay lawmaker's bill to ban state funding for coal-related projects.

In signing state Sen. Loni Hancock's bill, the governor also praised the Oakland City Council for voting to ban transportation of the ore through its city and encouraged other cities to do the same.

"Other localities should follow suit -- and the state should, too -- to reduce and, ultimately, eliminate the shipment of coal through all California ports, Brown wrote in a signing message.

“the governor also praised the Oakland City Council for voting to ban transportation of the ore through its city”

and how exactly is that even possible on ANY Federally funded road or highway or any railroad through the city?

it’s not. Just a bullshit token “law”.

I used to know a guy that had his own body shop (retired and moved south last year) that heated his shop with coal. It was the least expensive heat he could get.

This phony eco-socialism is ruining this country. Cheap energy is the source of the strength of this country. Make energy expensive and cripple the country. It is as simple as that.

Yeah. Because California is noted for the massive coal deposits there and it’s extensive coal exploration projects. What a maroon.

Because Obama will make sure that there will be no Federal pushback.

This is what they do in CA. When you’ve heard Mark Levin say “every day the legislature meets, you lose a little bit of freedom”, this is the paradigm. No, I do not personally ship coal. But this is what the CA legislature does. They hear about something in the news or some child gets asthma from something, and they just continuously come up with bill after bill after bill, restriction after restriction, law after law.

This is because 1 person did not like what was happening at the Oakland Army Base that had been changed into a shipping lane and some kind of Transporting of Coal Products to put People to work etc. Tons of monies had already been spent on the Facility and 1 person had a problem with it. All work was suspended and shut down, All former Monies that had been spent etc. It was a real Festered move.

The coal in question would come from other states and would be heading through California for export.

I'll look later for more detail, but I've heard of problems related to federal law.

According to my research, there are NO coal-fired energy production plants in the state of California.

I read the article. I get it. Most of the coal-fired energy generating plants are located in states other than California. You can look that up.

They’re all right across the border in AZ. Of course sending all the power long distance created 4 times the pollution of having them near where the power is needed.

For sale: 1 old, but barely used Governor. NOS. In good condition, brain in like new condition, low hours, appears to stand straight initially, but leans noticeably to the left over time. Need to sell.... any offer entertained.
