The story of the how the recipe was (literally) placed into a reporter's hands started simply enough. A reporter travelled to the Harland Sanders Cafe and Museum and met with Joe Ledington, the nephew of Harland David Sanders (AKA Colonel Sanders).

What an ignorant asshole. A grandkid with zero respect for what got him a fortune.

Is this the original, good, recipe, or the (comparatively) crap one they sell now?

And I though that was just my imagination that it has changed. Glad im not the only one who thinks its not as good. I just figured I was hungrier when I was young.

Interesting about the white pepper. I would have never guessed about mustard and ginger either.

The only ones I hadn’t thought about were celery salt, ginger, and mustard. I ususally use onion powder, garlic powder, red pepper, and cayenne pepper instead of those three spices along with the others listed. I think the method of frying is what makes it so good though.

Original was so much more tasty than the fried batter in an attempt to keep abreast with Church’s. Never cared much for their mashed potatoes and gravy either. Brown gravy with taters and chicken IIRC? Fried chicken should be served with white cream gravy, taters and slabs of fresh bread to sop up all the calories.

Colonel Sanders’ recipe was the best throughout the last portion of the 20th century but was been surpassed by Popeye’s Cajun recipe more than a decade ago. Try it and you will wonder why you ever thought that the fake colonel’s was anything special.

Sorry - I hate Popeyes. KFC addict. I even have half a tub of it in my frig - though I go mostly extra crispy now. My wife is trying to wean me on to the grill - but its really dry.

Did I mention I love KFC?

its not as good because they changed the oil....went “healthier” but its not nearly as good as it used to be....still as expensive though.

I questioned the T too...that’s an awful lot of salt and herbs and spices for 2 cups of flour...

The tricky bit was never the seasoning. The tricky bit always was — and remains — KFC’s pressurized deep fat fryer.
