France has a 200-year old problem with the church.

On a related note, do journalists have a style guide to help them write articles in a consistent manner? I've read stories where priests "hold" mass, "conduct" mass, "lead" mass, as well as others equally illogical.

Priests celebrate mass, offer mass, they even say mass. It appears the journalist chosen to write on religious matters is the one with the least knowledge of the religion in question . . . or at least the most antipathy toward it.

A Chicago station had the following story a few years back: “A United Methodist reverend, who had been suspended from her ministry and tried by the church for coming out as a lesbian, has been cleared by the church court and has returned to her pastoral work. Today she celebrated mass for the first time in nearly a year.” I wrote to the editor, pointing out the UMC “reverends” (AKA “ministers”) don’t “celebrate mass,” and he actually wrote back, admitting they had done a sloppy job.

according to our current Novus Ordo parishes, the priest is referred to as a ‘presider’...

kind of in the way a designated council person would ‘preside’ over a municipal budget discussion...

gotta love the reverence of the Novus Ordo...
