NBC News ^ | 7/10/16 | VAUGHN HILLYARD and CARRIE DANN

Donald Trump is formally vetting a retired general as a potential running mate, but the 33-year Army veteran's views on social issues are sure to draw an outcry from Republicans already wary about Trump's conservative credentials.

Retired Lt. Gen Michael T. Flynn, who most recently served as the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, is being vetted as a last-minute addition to Trump's pool of possible vice presidential picks, NBC News confirms.

“Women have to be able to choose”.....they can already do that...it is between them and their doctor. “Women’s Health” is little more than a political football meant to confuse and disrupt otherwise independent moral values.

“If trump puts another liberal on the ticket...”

The general, in the same interview, was also embarrassingly weak on the transgender stuff - he should have at least took the opportunity to defend the notion that the military should be immune from such social engineering. Instead he gave an incredibly wussy non-answer.

For a general, he did not impress me as either quick-thinking or strategic in any sense.

Trump was far from my favorite in the primary but I will be voting for him in November.

The general deserves respect for his service. I just honestly don’t understand what he would add to the ticket. I get the point that he is not afraid to say ‘Islamic jihad’ or that illegals are ‘illegal’ - big hairy deal, Trump already cornered the market on those issues.

I want someone who helps fill in Trump’s ‘yuge’ weaknesses. Someone who favors and can articulate what America stands for - the cause of Freedom!

I’m a Freedom guy. Small central government. States rights. Individuals -vs- sex/color-based classes. Etc.

Which is why I originally started coming to FreeRepublic. Though the site seems less interested in that nowadays and more interested oriented toward silly useless and often juvenile in-fighting.

Yes, I will save my “invective” (and thanks for assuming I have some) for the real enemy. But I do hope you change your mind about not helping against Hillary. Trump is an ill-informed jackass, but he does seem to at least love America and its sovereignty in a way no Dems do.

I’ll be SO happy when Trump finally makes his VP pick so we can end these pointless, inane debates about these speculative articles speculating on who Trump should pick for VP, and get on with the far more important pointless, inane debates about why Trump should or should not have picked whomever he picked for VP.

Sorry, I’m a bit snarky. Anyway, your vote will count as much as mine, which is next to nothing. But what does count is that you do represent a LOT of people on our side and that will hurt Trump. I’ll still vote for Trump, but only because a wild card is still better than what we all know we’ll get from Hillary. But yea, from the beginning, perhaps Trump’s biggest weakness is his right flank - virtually everything he says on the conservative side has been contradicted by something he’s said on the liberal side in the past.

Trump gets ONE CHANCE to put up or shut up before November, where it’s more than words - and that is his VP pick. He best not blow it.

That’s different than the sly lie you presented.

I agree.

I’ll vote against Hillary regardless, of course. I don’t see a mature alternative.

But clearly if Trump picks someone even more liberal than himself, then it is quite logical to interpret that as a sign he thinks himself already too conservative to win. I’m naturally hoping for the opposite.

If trump puts another liberal on the ticket I’m staying home There is only so much that can be swallowed. And no that doesn’t mean I want Hilary so save your invective

If you stay home, Hillary is exactly who you'll be getting.

Of course, not just Hillary. You'll also get four young, ultra-liberal justices placed on the USSC and millions of new immigrant Democratic voters, enough to turn even Texas blue.

So, by all means stay home if you've swallowed enough. I mean, Heaven forfend Trump picks a running mate who hasn't kissed the ring of the single-issue pro-life lobby.

From a statement by the owner of FR In case there is any confusion regarding the FR and conservative position on abortion, among other issues:

As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

(Was a time it would have been a deal breaker here on FR.)

That has been the completely confusing thing about this election. We have die hard Freepers who would live and die by religion, constitution, morality and the conservative way that now, because it is trump affiliated, they will agree to many liberal ideology.
One YEAR ago, that would have been a deal breaker.

I have decided to vote for trump despite his shortcomings He is not a conservative and praises planned parenthood If he puts another liberal on the ticket that will be harder to do Its not that I want Hilary, far from it It’s just that I see little difference between the two I do not trust Trump not to make one of his famous deals and sell us all downriver as he has no real conservative values It’s all about trump.... At least a conservative on the ticket would give some hope that trump would get wise counsel and that there might be a conservative in office after trump leaves

YES, absolutely the general IS PRO-CHOICE!
It’s not a “libtard media” thing, he just said so on NBC.

The video is on YouTube. He said it on ABC also.

Well by all means, y'all bring the tar and feathers, I'll bring the rail to run his ass outta town on.

Before being let go for opinions not acceptable to the current President did this general rise in the ranks under this same president? If so, that tells all we need to know about him.

“I have decided to vote for trump despite his shortcomings.”

Me too.

We KNOW Hillary will be horrible. With The Donald there is a chance the republic will survive until we get a real Freedom-oriented administration someday.

Which is worse, a VP who is “pro-choice” or a Hillary who is pro-baby murder and a multitude of horrible things after that?

Sometime in life we do not have the luxury of a good choice, only the choice of the least repugnant option.

You make a good point.

Flynn won’t be the guy anyway. He can always be Secretary of Defense which is probably what he is being vetted for.

Hillary will thank you

We need to save our country first, social issues are no where near a priority right now. We need to get these tyrants pieces of craps out of our government.
