In Texas, the most important skill is bilingual Spanish. That will land a teaching job just about anywhere. And there are always plenty of jobs in the urban districts while jobs are hard to come by in the middle class suburbs. I notice they don’t say where he taught, but if he taught near where he lived, it was probably one of the better districts.

Having “debated” (cough cough) with libertarians, large L and small, over the years, it is clear that libertarians large L and small have had their brains rotted by drugs. They are the most dishonest, diceitful, and freaking stupid to the point of serious retardation of any group of people. Even regular rabid atheists are easier to communicate with.
Marijuana lowers IQ permanantly, depending on years of use and how young one starts, and of course the high THC content now makes the olden days stuff I used to smoke seem like smoking nettles or oregano.
And of course the destruction of initiative, clear thinking, rational judgement, etc is serious; plus any person who MUST have (insert substance of choice) every day, is a slave to that substance and the resultant vacay from reality it provides. No one who takes drugs or alcohol on a regular basis, has to have it, is a free human being.
Very sad. And I say this as a former drug user and teenage alcholic.

I figured it might have been something like that. As with most government run things, it appears it it rife with opportunities for abuse, and we are paying for it with money we don’t have.
Granted, for liberals, they think parents shouldn’t be raising their children, because in their minds, parents are bad for children, they should be raised by the state.
I just finished re-reading Orwell’s “1984”, and it is without a doubt one of the most frightening books I have ever read. But the thing here that made me think about it was O’Brien’s explanation to Winston about how the state fully intends to destroy the sexual drive, outlawing orgasm, making sex something unthinkiable, demolishing the husband-wife relationship, the parent-child relationship, and eventually, the bonds of simple friendship.
Encouraging these parents to send the kids to daycare where they can be raised by “professionals” seems to be right up that alley.
There had been a time in my life where I thought it was a far-fetched story about a future dystopia. Now it seems as if it is an instructional manual for the Left.
