back then, don’t forget too that the Soviets were funding and arming Nasser in Egypt (he was given Hero of the USSR award), Syria, and the PLO.

They would’ve established a Pan-Arab communist state (really just a caliphate without Islam at the fore, which is what Pan-Arabism was) and the Soviets would’ve had the whole middle east with oil and the rest. Given actual economic resources there, unlike in ‘Nam, the domino theory would’ve occurred there. We could’ve lost the Cold War.

Also to armydawg, most of the time I see the USS Liberty implied as anything other than an accident, its usually from leftist kooks. It was shown to be an accident. The end.

Thanks SJackson. Egypt's illegal acts in the Sinai and Gulf of Aqaba, and the Suez Canal, made war inevitable, and made the price Egypt paid more than just.

It was Egypt that attacked Israel by blockading their shipping routes through the Gulf of Aqaba and the Suez Canal; the Arab states also broadcast their intentions, and the start date was even known via intel. Israel's preemptive strike led to near-complete air supremacy, and made it possible for a not-very-well-off nation (most of tiny Israel didn't even have a reliable TV broadcast signal at that time) that was far outnumbered to shred the ground forces of hostile "neighbors" who were ready to invade.

1973 was the Yom Kippur war. I think it started in Oct. Mr. GG2 was standing on the Golan Heights when the rockets started coming over. Somebody with the IDF shoved an AK in his hands, said “don’t let anybody come across that wire. We will be back soon”. He said it was the longest two hours of his life.

Thank you. I’ve had Adblock, NoScript, Ghostery, and Malwarebytes installed for quite a while. I still cannot use the Forbes site without much aggravation. I give up on Forbes. It’s just not worth it.

Israel needs to do it again. It may be much harder this time.

Egypt gave the Soviets one more try in 1973 before they finally threw them out. Only Obama has driven them back into the arms of the Russians.
