Cruz's campaign is over, but his delegates fight on (Better call Saul)

After Ted Cruz dropped out of the presidential race, his campaign staffers boxed up their mementos and souvenirs as they prepared to shutter the Houston headquarters, and the Texan announced that he would seek reelection to the U.S. Senate.

Yet Cruz’s team didn't abandon the race for the White House entirely. It still filed a slate of potential presidential delegates for California’s June 7 primary, and continues to monitor delegate selection in states that already voted in the GOP nominating process.

The end result is that Cruz will have more than 550 loyalists attending the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July — a ground force that helps him establish himself as the national leader of the conservative movement, protect the party's conservative platform from what the senator has called Trump's "New York values," and lay the foundation for a potential 2020 presidential bid.

“Knowing Trump, there’s always a possibility” for mayhem, said Saul Anuzis, a senior Cruz advisor.

“If he blows up, then he blows up."

Careful with words Saul Anuzis, this is still America, not the Middle East. /s

Based on some of the comments I have seen posted here by Cruz supporters prior to Cruz dropping out, I am not surprised there are Cruz delegates still keeping the faith... so to speak.

2020 Bid???? He still has to win reelection to the Senate in 2018. I wouldn’t bet the house on that happening.

The courts could knuckle under, but if they do so it will be in a weakening of traditional ideas of American sovereignty, at a time when the populace has had questionable allegiance ground into its face for eight years already (Barack Obama).

I think Trump will have about 1,450 delegates at the RNC convention.

You guys can just go in the corner and play with yourselves.

Also, Cruzifer will have a hard time winning renomination.

Cornyn won’t touch you, he runs Senate campaign committee

Cruzifer got only 43% of the Texas Primary vote, vs. Trump getting 62% of his home state vote.

Questions about why he gave Carly a half million dollars, questions about his affairs, and Questions about his father and Lee Harvey Oswald, will resurface.

Cruzifer has no accomplishments, and for sure a President Trump isn’t going to look kindly on a Non Supportive Terd Cruzifer.

It will be interesting to see what the Texas voters think as he runs for another term
and the possiblity of another Presidential nominee run. At some point they may decide
they need a full time senator as opposed to one looking for another job.

Exactly...When the primary campaigns turned against him, he shed the wolf’s clothing and it became obvious he was just another establishment sheep....

Cruz is toast. When he thought it was to his advantage he did not hesitate one minute to become the lapdog of the establishment. Cruz is an ill trained dog that snarls at everyone but only bites the people who feed it.

The article claims it’s remarkable this year that 566 Cruz pledged delegates, will be attending the convention. One has to wonder, really, WHY? Unless they have an ulterior motive.

Cruz’ delegate work strategy paid off last week in California; he has delegates committed from all 53 districts. (~172 total)

A week after after Cruz drops out, his campaign submits a full slate of California delegates. Why are they doing this if he is highly unlikely to win even one district. Why the exercise in futility.

“If he blows up, then he blows up.”

Cruz blew up in Indiana, or, had a meltdown in Indiana (mentally).

These idiots refuse to recognize the discipline needed to amass a ten billion dollar business.

It requires a bit more discipline than it does to trick enough votes for a Senate seat.

He should go back to Canada, I hear Justin Truedeau is up for reelection in 2019.

They are definitely out to make trouble. I don’t think they will end up getting away with anything significant.

From what I just seen on another site: Trump has 1161 delegates right now; he needs 1237; so he is 76 delegates short and there are 420 delegates out there, so from what I seen he goes to the convention with: 1,581 total delegates....
