German Army leaves NATO exercises early because of overtime rules

No, it is not The Onion reporting this, it is the UK Telegraph:

German soldiers taking part in a four-week Nato exercise in Norway earlier this year had to leave after just 12 days because they had gone over their overtime limits, it has emerged.

Troops have complained to a parliamentary watchdog that they are being forced to spend entire days doing nothing under the new rules.

“It can’t be that we can’t fulfil our Nato obligations because of overtime,” Hans-Peter Bertels, the German parliamentary commissioner for the armed forces, told Bild am Sonntag newspaper….

You see, German soldiers are limited to 41 hours a week of work, and cannot be paid overtime.

Hmmm. Union negotiated OT rules? No wonder Germany seems to be a landing spot for innocent Syrian refugees.

Germans work hard. The French on the other hand probably didn’t complain one bit.

Don’t worry. US troops will cover your place on the combat line. And for free too.

What a pathetic euro joke. If there is a war, will they “work overtime”? HaHaHa...

Sounds like a bunch of wusses who wouldn’t be able to resist an army of invading jihadis.

I can remember when they shut down their air defense radars on weekends because the troops couldn't work overtime.

“Ursula von der Leyen, the defence minister, has been widely criticised for reforms that have seen creches and flat-screen TVs introduced to military bases and postings limited to match school term dates.”

Another example of what happens when you put women in charge. The feminization of the West will be its downfall.

The father of my roommate in college had the unique experience in WWII of serving or being dragged along with four different armies. First as a draftee with his native Italian forces in North Africa, then after his unit was more or less obliterated by the British he was picked up by the Germans and was with them for a few months. Then captured by the British and eventually giving over to the Americans to work as an interpreter for the Sicily invasion. Be eventually ended up in Middletown, Ohio where his son Julius, my dorm roommate, was born. I asked him in his opinion who were the best soldiers. Without hesitation he said the Germans. He saw a few Germans hold off platoons of Americans or Brits and work like machines. It took overwhelming firepower to overcome them. How times have changed.

“Without hesitation he said the Germans. He saw a few Germans hold off platoons of Americans or Brits and work like machines.”

That’s always the kraut excuse when they get their ass kicked. The French stopped em and held them in WWI. The Russians beat them like a drum. The US army went from Normandy to deep into Germany in less than a year.

And still it’s always, “the German soldier is the ultimate soldier, only defeated by human waves and firepower”. The fact is that they were outfought from the level of General down to NCO and PFC.

US Navy SEALS - The only easy day was yesterday

German Army - It's really hard when you used up all of your overtime yesterday

I worked a lot of “half days” in the military. In fact, most of the time I worked at least 12 hours days. Overtime? Never crossed my mind.
