[George Will]:If Trump is nominated, the GOP must keep him out of the White House
Washington Compost ^ | 29 April 2016 | George Will

Donald Trump’s damage to the Republican Party, although already extensive, has barely begun. Republican quislings will multiply, slinking into support of the most anti-conservative presidential aspirant in their party’s history. These collaborationists will render themselves ineligible to participate in the party’s reconstruction.

Ted Cruz’s announcement of his preferred running mate has enhanced the nomination process by giving voters pertinent information. They already know the only important thing about Trump’s choice: His running mate will be unqualified for high office because he or she will think Trump is qualified.

Hillary Clinton’s optimal running mate might be Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, a pro-labor populist whose selection would be balm for the bruised feelings of Bernie Sanders’s legions. Running mates rarely matter as electoral factors: In 2000, Al Gore got 43.2 percent of the North Carolina vote. In 2004, John Kerry, trying to improve upon Gore’s total there, ran with North Carolina Sen. John Edwards but received 43.6 percent. If, however, Brown were to help deliver Ohio for Clinton, the Republican path to 270 electoral votes would be narrower than a needle’s eye. [SNIP]

Trump would be the most unpopular nominee ever, unable to even come close to Mitt Romney’s insufficient support among women, minorities and young people. In losing disastrously, Trump probably would create down-ballot carnage sufficient to end even Republican control of the House. Ticket splitting is becoming rare in polarized America: In 2012, only 5.7 percent of voters supported a presidential candidate and a congressional candidate of opposite parties.

Mr Will. Your professional obligation is to offer insight to your readers, not ongoing bitterness that makes you too blind to have any.

You say you’re not hostile, but you sure seem hostile. Whatever salient points you’re trying to make aren’t getting through to me. That could be my fault or your fault. Don’t expect points to get through to people while you insult them though. All they’re going to hear are the insults.

All I’m getting is you’re angry and you want somebody to do something about it already.

I voted for Rubio because I thought he had the best chance of beating Hillary. I still think he did. I think he’d make her look old and yesterday.

I eliminated Trump very early for a lot of reasons, among them I don’t know if there’s a record of him ever voting in a Republican primary in his life until this year. Wouldn’t if be something if six months into his term he came out of a meeting with Senator Schumer and announced that since the Republicans are impossible to deal with, he’s switching parties? That would be historic.

We just went through eight years of an extra-Constitutional president who thinks whatever he says becomes the law. I think Trump would do the same. I don’t think he has much of a knowledge of our form of government.

And yet, I will end up voting for Trump though it will be the toughest vote I’ve ever cast.

The Republican Party for which George Will yearns hasn’t existed for decades - if it ever did exist.

I am not "hostile", nor am I exactly "angry".

You don't like being "insulted" isn't quite factual. Rather, you do NOT like the truth placed before you, by someone who knows far more than you do. For whatever reason/s, you are deaf and blind to anything and everything that doesn't jibe with your preconceived ideas about things; all of them completely wrong !

Rubio id the one beguiled and in the thrall of Chuckles Schumer, immediately upon his arrival in D.C.!

Little Marco couldn't beat ANYONE of the original 17, it's laughable for you to claim that he could beat Hillary; not to mention insane.

WHAT PART OF RUBIO IS INELIGIBLE TO BE VEEP AND PRESIDENT IS BEYOND YOUR ABILITY TO ACCEPT AND/OR UNDERSTAND?

Of ALL of the people running to be the next president, now, Cruz is the person MOST like Obama !

OTOH, Trump knows all about SCHMUCKY CHUCKY, he wouldn't be fooled nor conjolled by him; not ever!

Unlike Cruz, who is more than willing to say or do ANYTHING to be president and gladly wipes his arse on and then shreds the Constitution, Trump is an honest, America loving Patriot, who is this nation's last, best hope to pull America back from the brink.

Pssssssssssssssssssst....the word you keep missing, when trying to figure out my attitude towards you, is DISGUSTED! I am disgusted by your mordant, abject stupidity.

Mexican - Americans are more likely to own a small business than almost any other ethnic group. They are also as Catholic as any ethnic group.

And they vote 60% Democrat. Asian Americans are wealthier than white Americans and they too vote Democrat. So apparently all these "signs and portents" that various groups are "natural Republicans" aren't worth a hill of beans.

But the most important thing is that every four years they will be a larger and larger percentage of the electorate. The Republican Party ignores them at its peril.

Trump isn't ignoring immigrants.

Ttfx, trumpinator, nopardons, mold conservative

Good points refuting beernoser.

What beernoser has described as ‘conservative’ is GOPe & elitist globalism leaven mixed in with the traditional values loaf.

Trump wants the leaven removed; beernoser wants it left in.

Also see this; a few posts in ‘15, before that, posts in ‘08/’09... but lots in this year:

George Will is exactly right in his analysis. Trump is leading Republicans to suicide.

JERRY: Elaine and I were just discussing whether I could admit a man is attractive.
KRAMER: Hmm. Oh! Yeah. I’ll tell you who is an attractive man: George Will.
JERRY: Really!
KRAMER: Yeah! He has clean looks, scrubbed and shampooed and...
ELAINE: He’s smart....
KRAMER: No, no. I don’t find him all that bright.

George Will now proves himself to be a recalcitrant , abject-elitist, silver-spoon-in-mouth, wacko ninny.

Will has just ruined his own career.I very much look forward to his absence.

Will should be wearing a skirt to match his bleating.

Many thanks for the link; I hadn't thought about looking him up. What a spotty posting history! He hardly crawls out to post, from under his rock, much, except for this year. He should crawl back...quickly!

What an uneducated, dumb as a box of rocks he is! SHEEEEEEESH

When Trump is elected he must keep George Will out of the White House. And George, it’s time for a fresh look. The trade-in value on that toupee is declining precipitously.

Forgive me for sounding conspiracy minded, but I am more and more convinced this has little to do with Conservative Ideology, this is about them losing big money.

They can keep him out of the White House. He can keep his place in Manhattan and go to Mar-A- Lago

I have known 100 of the blue haired ladies who wear elephant hats and work hundreds of hours to keep every little party office going. I’ve gone to 40 of their funerals, often with elephants on their coffins.

A person telling the lie will often embellish the story with too much detail or simply ludicrous exaggerations. The sentence about elephants on coffins falls in the later category. Also, never use round numbers, or exact numbers. It's another giveaway.
