The history of Western Civilization is the steady march against anarchy, and trying to find a middle way that does not lapse into local tyrannies and rigid hierarchies that can only be broken free of by violent overthrow, resulting in a plunge into - anarchy.

Much of the human race is caught in a struggle between the total control and minimal or no control of the masses, and only recently (comparatively) has there been struck something of a balance, which also involves the consent and participation of at least part of those subjected to these extremes.

The best example ever of the balance may be found in the brief history of that concept known as “the United States of America”, and the republic which was founded on the framework laid down by the words of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and its Amendments, which governed that nation for a couple of centuries.

Much of which has been forsaken in the name of “modernity” and “political correctness”.

A great part of the foundation of the development of modern "liberalism" - the British kind not the pinko commie kind - is founded on British common law [the U.S. constitution only worked because it instilled common law legal principles]. Of course common law was another abominable creation of the white man - the British imperialists in particular who spread it through the world - New Zealand, Australia, and even ... Kenya.

A few more years and we will have rooted it out of American law entirely - once we get rid of another common law institution, the right to bear arms.

Much wisdom there. Emerson talked about the fight against Anarchy as well in his Self-Reliance essays.

You are so right.

Eliminate history and you can eliminate anything/anyone.
