Why the Left Loathes Western Civilization
FrontPage ^ | April 27, 2016 | Dennis Prager

This month, Stanford University students voted on a campus resolution that would have their college require a course on Western civilization, as it did until the 1980s.

Stanford students rejected the proposal 1,992 to 347. A columnist at the Stanford Daily explained why: Teaching Western civilization means "upholding white supremacy, capitalism and colonialism, and all other oppressive systems that flow from Western civilizations."

A good article that describes why Stanford dropped the requirement for Western Civilization. The left hates Western Civilization just as they hate America.

"The left hates standards — moral standards, artistic standards, cultural standards. The West is built on all three, and it has excelled in all three."

"the left loathed President Ronald Reagan for labeling the Soviet Union an "evil empire," because that would mean America was morally superior to the Soviet Union. And such a judgment was unacceptable. The whole left-wing moral vocabulary is a rejection of Western moral standards"

Sheesh—I never got to vote on my curriculum when I was in college. I could take what was required or I could leave.

Of course, that may explain why I can rings intellectually around most of today’s college students and recent graduates.

Why do Americans continue to fund these sewers of America-hating communism? If the commies want to program these young skulls full of mush, let the communists pay for it. Americans work too hard for their money for it to be wasted on sh*t like this.

The history of Western Civilization is the steady march against anarchy, and trying to find a middle way that does not lapse into local tyrannies and rigid hierarchies that can only be broken free of by violent overthrow, resulting in a plunge into - anarchy.

Much of the human race is caught in a struggle between the total control and minimal or no control of the masses, and only recently (comparatively) has there been struck something of a balance, which also involves the consent and participation of at least part of those subjected to these extremes.

The best example ever of the balance may be found in the brief history of that concept known as “the United States of America”, and the republic which was founded on the framework laid down by the words of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and its Amendments, which governed that nation for a couple of centuries.

Much of which has been forsaken in the name of “modernity” and “political correctness”.

Isn’t Stanford one of the very best universities in America? Most exclusive?

Anyway, I don’t know what they’re worried about. History’s my favorite subject and I have a good eye for a history textbook. Those I’ve seen that were written in this century are all loaded with anti-Western bias and pro-muslim sewage.

This is about the good stuff, not the Johnny-come-lately of the past few decades where revisionism plays a major role.

A great part of the foundation of the development of modern "liberalism" - the British kind not the pinko commie kind - is founded on British common law [the U.S. constitution only worked because it instilled common law legal principles]. Of course common law was another abominable creation of the white man - the British imperialists in particular who spread it through the world - New Zealand, Australia, and even ... Kenya.

A few more years and we will have rooted it out of American law entirely - once we get rid of another common law institution, the right to bear arms.

Morison wrote some great books on WW2, especially The Two-Ocean War (naval ops). Commager, if he’s not in your library, it ain’t a library!

I’m now reading Patriot’s History of the U.S. by Schweikert and Allen. It’s comparatively light reading but would serve today’s students adequately. (A few hundred copies per school and watch the brats start the bonfires.)

Instead of “Why We Fight” in theaters in the next war the “progressives” will watch “Why We Surrender” on their phones.

Standards, that’s why. The Left wants a world with no constraints on their personal behavior. This includes, if possible, eliminating the natural consequences of counterproductive behavior.

They are warriors against Reality.

Well, then the leftists on campi need to acknowledge just what they are rejecting... logic, human rights, democracy, science, modern medicine, any real technology, and even socialism, as they are all ideas and products of Western Civilization. Slavery was universal, and remains widespread in non western countries. Tyranny is the norm there also. As is said, they have made their beds, now lie in them.

We are caught up in a battle between “Do unto others as you would be done unto” and “Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.”
The bad news is that the bad guys are currently winning.
If someone does not know who the bad guys are, they are probably one of them.
The Good News is, we know how it ends.
