Yeah, I’m going to wait for some credible evidence, and not some doomsday fetish blog.

There is a web cam that streams Old Faithful pretty much constantly from the point of view of the Visitors’ Center at the geyser basin. It looks very normal right now. Not that you shouldn’t panic or anything, just saying.

So if the ground is hot enough to glow why doesn’t the snow melt?

Let’s hope (and PRAY) that the releases of energy happening now are preventing the big bang that would devastate us.

Of possible interest to those of us in the “kill zone”.

"While most scientists believe the probability of a major eruption is very small"

Is this true? I always heard the probability of a major eruption here is virtually certain, we just don't know when it will happen - it could happen next month or it could happen 1,000 years from now.

Fracking? I think not.
A planet in a long elliptical orbit approaching from the south? Possibly.

Most likely a domino effect, one is setting the others off.

IIRC the Yellowstone caldera has been rising for years and
they’ve been saying it’s due to blow. The last time was
over 600K years ago, so what are the odds?

Nope. That’s 4 minutes of timelapse video of Old Faithful just steaming, not actually erupting. It can steam for a long time after it finishes actually erupting, and the steam is more dramatic if it’s cold (there’s snow on the ground). As to the nonsense about “bright ground”, that’s nothing more than a combination of snow and a camera with a wide f-stop aperture so it can record in low light conditions. It’s shocking (or maybe not) how willfully-ignorant people will make themselves to serve their pet theories.

Not saying there aren’t or won’t be some kind of reaction from Yellowstone to all the activity on the RoF, but that video hurts rather than helps such claims.

That’s nice. What does a normal cold, clear night look like?

Story says even though it’s night it looks like broad daylight.

A full moon and low light camera will do that, and allow one to see the stars in the background...

Oh MAN. Here we go.

The doomsday people have got their attention they wanted. The problem here is, the USGS didnt do themselves any good by taking the seismic chart offline. Hen, one of the head honchos that the U of Utah told one that he wouldnt talk about why.

Here are the facts as I have read them and told by a geologist. That thing goes off, and it will someday, it could well be a global extinction event. It depends on the size of the eruption-meaning even the smallest one historically was much bigger than Tambora? in the early 1800s.

That one caused global famine. Will it go this year? Next Year? When? Nobody knows. But, if anyone thinks that they are safe if outside the fallout zone, they are mistaken. It will cause global cooling worldwide and most of the earths population will die.

So, running around like shickens with your head chopped off isnt going to do any good. Best thing is to get out of the way-which is the responsibilty of the USGS and other agencies. How much time would there be? Weeks.

The one disaster I see happening way before Yellowstone is the Cascadia Fault. That one is close to happening.

In this video, it appears to be as bright as day even though it is the middle of the night because it's taken with a THERMAL INFRARED CAMERA that is sensitive to the heat radiation emitted by the scene (8-12 micron wavelength) rather than the visible light reflected by the scene (350-800 nanometer wavelength). Earth scenes ALWAYS look "bright as day" to a thermal infrared camera.

“something big is getting ready to happen at Yellowstone, and if it does erupt all of our lives will be permanently changed forever.”

Indeed.
We’ll be dead.

That video looks normal and doesn’t look that much different than what can be seen on “The History Channel”.
