'Goldwater's Ugly Stepson': Scarborough Scolds GOP Establishment for Backing Cruz
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 04/19/2016 6:27:15 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Barry Goldwater was a conservative hero and pioneer. But his presidential run was an historic flop. So when Joe Scarborough described Ted Cruz on today's Morning Joe as "Barry Goldwater's ugly stepson," it was a scalding simile. Scarborough in turn scolded the Republican establishment for backing Cruz over John Kasich as the alternative to Donald Trump.

Scarborough's argument on today's Morning Joe was about electabiity. Scarborough predicted that in a general election against Hillary, Cruz would lose 40-41 states [actually a bit better than the 44 Goldwater lost]. The screencap shows Scarborough holding up a Boston Red Sox coffee cup while claiming the cup has a better chance of beating Hillary in swing states than Cruz. In contrast, Scarborough says Kasich would "blow her out."

The American voters have chosen Mr. Trump.

NBC always chooses dictators.

If that was true then they would be supporting the Donald.

I agree with the idea that you should nominate the most conservative guy who can win. But Kasich isn’t a conservative in any sense - he’s to the left of both Romney and McCain. So, Republicans lose as soon as we’d nominate him.

I think previously Banjo Boy admitted he was a Marco Rubio supporter. No wonder he comes into work with a hangover lately.

He has cruz winning 10 states over a democrat? Pray tell what would they be? My take would be cruz loses all 50. There won’t be enough nose holding republicans left to carry any state after the big tent folds up in Cleveland.

As Patton said “ Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser”
Watching sleazy Ted making back room deals with insider partisans to pack the delegate count is not “ winning” and Ted’s plummeting polls show it

Scarborough, Kasich, Condit and Chandra Levy will always be linked together.

Not at all; he’s been filled with disdain and vitriol for Rubio since the beginning of the race.

Add to that list, the woman who died mysteriously or was murdered in his FL congressional office.

Thanks for that reminder.

Both Kasich and Scarborough immediately “retired” from Congress when all that was coming down.

Nice to see Scarborough getting his bearings back. He went too far 'anti-Trump' when Jeb didn't make it...

While I don’t think Cruz can win the general given his trouncing in the swing states of FL and OH, I don’t see how a guy that can’t win but only one primary can win in November.

I mean of what issues do Hillary and Kasich differ on?

“NBC supports dictators”

“If that was true then they would be supporting the Donald.”

Interestingly enough on that point, I was listening to Fox Business in my truck this AM on the way to a rig. They had Trump’s campaign manager on and were asking how Trump would do with immigrants. He responded “a lot of immigrants come from the Third World and really like strong man leaders like Trump.”

It was a telling moment.

Lots of people like to be told what to do.
