“The president and leader of the Armies MUST BE a person who had NO OTHER LOYALTIES”
That is absolutely false, although it sounds nice.
The Constitution requires a President to be at least 35 years old.
HOWVER....
The Constitution only requires a president to live inside the United States for 14 of those 35 years.
So 60% of a President’s life could be lived in a foreign country.
Why did the Founders do that?
Why didn’t they say that a President has to live 100% of his life inside the United States? Or 80%?
The Founders only require a President to live inside the United States only 40% of his life.
No other loyalties was the inception of the term “natural born citizen.” Read John Jay’s letter! John Jay was to become the FIRST CHIEF JUSTICE of the Supreme Court. George Washington passed on Jay’s suggestion to the Framers of the Constitution.
John Jay wrote a letter to General Washington, the President of the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention ...
“Permit me to hint, whether it would be wise and seasonable to provide a strong check to the admission of Foreigners into the administration of our national Government; and to declare expressly that the Command in Chief of the American army shall not be given to nor devolve on, any but a
natural born Citizen.”
General Washington handed the suggestion to the framers and the rest is history. As we are talking original intent, no “weight of legal and historical authority” is required to get this far. This is about “foreigners”.
