Dennis Hastert’s lawyers asked a federal judge Wednesday to spare the former U.S. House Speaker time behind bars in his hush-money case and sentence him to probation, saying the 74-year-old has already paid a steep price in shame and disgrace.
A filing in federal court in Chicago — where the Illinois Republican is scheduled for sentencing on April 27 — says Hastert “apologizes for his misconduct that occurred decades ago” and is “overwhelmed by the guilt.” Notably, it contains no detail about that misconduct. Attorneys and the judge spoke recently about someone possibly testifying at sentencing who says Hastert sexually abused him years ago. …

If Hastert was a homosexual, then he should rot in prison.
Every convict could say they have already faced enough disgrace. You break the laws you helped to create for the rest of us you should go away for twice as long.
Maybe you better off in Saudi Arabia or Iran.
If this is legit, he deserves to spend time in prison just like anyone else.

Remember how he looked like a regular guy when he got the office? I saw him in a DC steakhouse a few years later and he had become one of the most corpulent pigs I’ve ever seen from years of feasting on lobbyists’ tabs. We probably have an extra trillion in debt from his performance alone, relative to a (hypothetical) Republican who actually walked the walk.
At least once in my lifetime I would like to see someone in a position of power not abuse the hell out of it.

Yes, he is a homosexual. He better repent fast because we are in the Last Days. God is the ultimate judge. But the Feds put in him prison for “structuring.” An asinine law that punishes people for withdrawing their own money from a bank.

When I heard of this tale of woe, I thought back to his coming to the Speakership. Newt had been thrown out for philandering, and his purported replacement (can’t recall his name) was also thrown out in advance, for the same reason. Along comes Hastert and sails into the speakership.
I’m convinced he got the job PRECISELY because someone had the goods on his peccadillos, and could use that as a lever to keep him in line.
I am convinced that anyone who gets promoted in DC has got skeletons known to the puppeteers.
