Cruz, not Trump, should lead GOP rebellion
Newsday ^ | March 31, 2016 | William F. B. O’Reilly

I got to meet Texas Sen. Ted Cruz last week in New York City.

Normally after eyeballing a public figure up close, you report back to friends that, “he’s a lot different in person” – shorter or taller, friendlier or unfriendlier, aloof or “really down-to earth.”

Not so with Cruz.

That impressed me.

Besides being, OK, slightly smaller and significantly better looking in person than on TV, the Ted Cruz I saw and briefly spoke with at an off-the-record sit down at my old political club in Manhattan was the exact same one I’ve been watching in action for the past several years. He was sincere, unwavering, driven and humorless, with that man-on-a-mission feel we saw in the primary debates.

Cruz clearly isn’t a New York politician. He demeanor screams, “Bible Belt” (he’s the son of a baptist minister) and he’s far too smooth to be a Northeast politician. New Yorkers have an aversion to slicksters, and Cruz undeniably lends himself to that description. He’s also more conservative than most Republicans in these parts, not necessarily in what he believes, but in what he chooses to emphasize. There are plenty of socially conservative Republicans in New York, but they rarely lead with it.

Cruz goes there.

The biggest knock on Cruz to most Americans is that he was willing to shut down the federal government over the debt limit a couple of years back. A lot of very smart people called that reckless, but in fairness to Cruz, so is adding hundreds of billions of dollars in red ink to our already suicidal $19 trillion debt load. It was a bit of brinksmanship I personally didn’t mind....

“He just acts like it, and talks like it, and has their members on his team, and is endorsed by them, and has one of them fight his widdle battle for him. But, no he’s not even close to Rubio, Bush, Fiorina, and on and on. Nice try.”

That’s funny.

Didn’t Deceptive Donnie have Pelosi, Reid, Rangel, Schummer, and Clinton on his team?

Height is a very shallow measure of politician or anyone.

*****************

May be but people’s attributes are one method some humans look at each other,
shallow or otherwise. No one is perfect.

“The thing with Cruz is that if we follow him in a principled conservative political & philosophical rebellion, we will probably lose very badly.”

You sound just like the establishment who gave us Dole, McCain, and Romney.

Personally, I’ll take a candidate with a core set of conservative values. If you don’t have that, you don’t have squat.

Trump meets that standard economically.

On campaign contributions, the corruption comes by the money taken and the votes cast that are influenced by it.

Actually, it is a false indictment I made. There may be candidates that take money but don't vote accordingly or who believe with the direction of those funding them. I'm now officially flip flopping sort of.

Call Chris Daniels Senate Candiate Mississippi

Gonna have to get another one to promote, cause if you call Chris MCDANIELS (MS), he would tell you that Cruz raised money for him to run against Cochran, which is why McDaniel was campaigning for Cruz.

“You mean an honest billionaire who honestly takes both sides of every issue honestly.”

You mean the same honest billionaire that called Carson pathological and compared him to a child molester?

... or the one that changes his mind on the abortion issue two hours after he talks about it?

Yeah. That’s honesty.

Reagan had a Bush as a running mate.

You were apparently alive then, but you didn't learn anything during those years.

Reagan joining with that Bush is why we are in the mess we are in today. It was his worst mistake, for it prevented his legacy from lasting. Bush of the "kinder, gentler" variety of Republican. He came in and dismantled the RNC and replaced it with his people, and it has remained in firm control of the Country Club set ever since. They control it today, and, while Trump would conduct a hostile takeover of the organization, Cruz would seek to be the honorary head of it while the entire leadership remains intact. Had we known how close Cruz is to the establishment, we would not have supported him against Dewhurst. What's the difference?

Bingo. Well put. And we can all see who is buttering his bread.

Four possibilities as I see it:

1. Was always establishment
2. Recently sold out
3. Now being used and doesn’t know it
4. Converted the GOPe to Conservatism

I find the 4th to be highly unlikely

“He’s in bed with the establishment. He’s GOPe”

It wasn’t Cruz that bought off the establishment, like a John buying whores.

Stay tuned. I think that Cruz is about to take advantage of Trump’s stunning unforced errors.

Silliness to bring it up. An irrelevant personal observations that he just had to share with everyone.

Maybe at this point we should all let the voters decide in the month of April. By the 26th we will see if Cruz has a path forward to 1237 or if indeed Trump does either. There is a possibility neither does by the end of April, in which case the most likely result is neither gets the nomination, sad as that is.

At this point Cruz supporters and Trump supporters are not going to convince each other. People see things through entirely different lenses. There is really no point going on about the relative merits of the candidates, I think 99 percent of folks have had their minds made up.
