I got to meet Texas Sen. Ted Cruz last week in New York City.
Normally after eyeballing a public figure up close, you report back to friends that, “he’s a lot different in person” – shorter or taller, friendlier or unfriendlier, aloof or “really down-to earth.”
Not so with Cruz.
That impressed me.
Besides being, OK, slightly smaller and significantly better looking in person than on TV, the Ted Cruz I saw and briefly spoke with at an off-the-record sit down at my old political club in Manhattan was the exact same one I’ve been watching in action for the past several years. He was sincere, unwavering, driven and humorless, with that man-on-a-mission feel we saw in the primary debates.
Cruz clearly isn’t a New York politician. He demeanor screams, “Bible Belt” (he’s the son of a baptist minister) and he’s far too smooth to be a Northeast politician. New Yorkers have an aversion to slicksters, and Cruz undeniably lends himself to that description. He’s also more conservative than most Republicans in these parts, not necessarily in what he believes, but in what he chooses to emphasize. There are plenty of socially conservative Republicans in New York, but they rarely lead with it.
Cruz goes there.
The biggest knock on Cruz to most Americans is that he was willing to shut down the federal government over the debt limit a couple of years back. A lot of very smart people called that reckless, but in fairness to Cruz, so is adding hundreds of billions of dollars in red ink to our already suicidal $19 trillion debt load. It was a bit of brinksmanship I personally didn’t mind....

So you are saying no one has any good character unless he is doing the buying of politicians.
While I agree that there are many that are bought and paid for. You are painting Cruz with the broad brush without facts to back it up.
Just like Trump making all kind of false statements.
If you think Trump is not bought and paid for and he is the savior with good character, you are in for a big disappointment.
Where is the democrat candidate? I just see Trump vs Cruz. Your premise that Cruz cannot win Ohio is based on a premise which is not valid.

Sorry to disappoint you, but no candidate has ever won a state in the general in which he lost a primary in that same state by the margins Cruz lost FL, OH, and VA numbers.
Where will he get the votes, Dems-NO, Moderates-NO, Conservatives-chose Trump by 3-1, 2.5-1, 2-1 over Cruz. Plus after dumping Trump(who will have more votes and delegates) at the convention he loses half of those potential votes.
Cruz knows he can’t win, so whats he doing?
GOPe always calls Mitch McConnell a liar (that he is) on the floor of the senate. Loads of GOPe types do that exact thing all the time, right?
Weren’t you one of the ones giving Cruz hell for not having any endorsements from his fellow GOPe senators and other assorted congresscritters? Hmmm, maybe that was Trump.
Yeah, no one liking you inside the beltway is a sure sign that you’re GOPe.

Guess you’ve been absent awhile, after Cruz was crushed by Trump in south he began without shame fully embracing the Bush dynasty and is campaigning with Romney, is funded by same associations, so yeah he’s fully bought and paid for.

I swear, even with the writing on the wall, they choose to not acknowledge it. I’m sure they see it, just won’t say so. Then we get the silly, ‘only rich people should run’ stupid line. No wonder our side is such a scrambled mess, with lightweights like this, the GOPe money grabbing illegal loving amnesty wanting freaks can control anything!

This is my problem. Cruz has no viable path to the needed delegates. His plan as well as yours is to get to a brokered convention and have him “elected” there. Of course, in order to achieve this, he will have to have the complete support of the GOPe as they will be in total control of the process. Now this is the same GOPe who supposedly hates him and fears him more than anyone else. Do you see anything wrong with this plan?

There is no way to know how it will work. They can change any rule anytime they please. You don’t think they are spending all of this dough to get Cruz nominated do you?
Senator Cruz has hundreds of people working on getting and switching delegates to his side. Mr. Trump recently hired one older gentleman to do the same thing. Who do you think will be more successful at it?
The people who make the RULES will.
Those will be, by-and-large, Cruz-leaning delegates. The party leadership doesn’t get to vote.
If Trump doesn’t get a majority of the delegates then I guess he doesn’t have a viable path either. People act like this is something new. It’s happened many times that no candidate had a majority and in the majority of the times that it has happened the person who went into the convention with the most delegates did not win the election at the conventionTrump’s problem is he alienates more people every day even many of the delegates pledged to vote for them would jump at the chanceto choose another candidate on the second ballot Trumps only chance is to win on the first ballot for the delegates are boundso it’s starting to look like Trump is the one without a viable path
Do you mean constructive criticism like Cruz is a poser or he’s bought and paid for because he took out a bank loan no I don’t find that persuasive especially when the same people have no problem with trumps espousing liberal positions across the board about 15 minutes before you started running for president on the GOP ticket and indeed they don’t have a problem with him advocating for higher taxes and universal government healthcare even today
