It’s going to be an encryption arms race.
Like they won’t share it with the muzzie bro’hood members of the administration, right?
Anyone remember the satellite/rocket secrets Clintoon gave the Chinese?
Ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.
Could be psyops: "Look, we're gonna lose the court case. Let's at least claim we got in on our own, so that the Muzzies are unsure of whether or not we can read it..."
A smart action.
So Apple comes down on the side of the terrorists,, why?
Blackmail made Apple give it to them, plus, 0bambi gives Co0k likely shivers down his leg - oh, and favorable status at the king’s table (a la fascism).
Apple’s current market capitalization is $583.43 billion. Only 20 nations have a GDP higher than Apple’s valuation. I don’t they were really sweating the lawsuit.
Mixed feelings here. Glad Apple’s off the hook (at least for now). But not comforted by the fact that someone else has discovered a vulnerability that worked. Don’t feel like my phone is so secure after all.
Looking forward to next-gen Apple phones that are even harder to crack.
Upon a read of the 50 page legal opinion from the judge in the New York branch of the case, re. forcing Apple to break into an IPhone, it appears that the govt knew they weren’t going to win in the courts. The govt tried to weasel a law from the 1700s to fit the current case but was methodically slapped down by the judge’s opinion.
The bad guys knew to crush the chips on their other phones. We shall see if the now defunct pissing contest was worth it.
Currently have a cheap basic phone but am considering buying an IPhone to show support for privacy rights and to help fund Apple’s developing stronger security.
No, Apple came down on the side of protecting the rights of innocent citizens.
Apple came down on the side of free citizens seeking security of their data against an overly intrusive government.
Terrorists, criminals and enemies can always get secure encryption. Question is whether law abiding citizens will be punished for having it too.
I suspect Apple cooperated and this is a face-saving cover story.
Apple relieved ? Believe me, this is VERY BAD for Apple.
Talk about egg on their face - Not only is their product’s security total bullshit, but even after they said “The technician wiped it before we could recover” now they find out that recovery is possible ?
A dark day for Apple, indeed.
But I digress - We all know it’s a smokescreen. Apple gives the DHS open access to every device because it’s required of Apple to sell products in the United States. Read the fine print.
Apple just pretended to fight it to save their stock, and the government pretended to fight so that people would think that they didn’t have the ability. Believe me when I tell you - as a 25 year I.T. professional - They had that info. The whole time.
Also an I.T. guy, familiar with recovering info off of HDD...you have to degauss the platters to really erase the data on the platters,,,although that is different that decrypting ,,,,and of course this is fl aah memory...
It is obvious that you don;e leave the flash memory in the phone...you disassemble the phone and pull the flash memory out and pull everything off the flash memory to a nice traditional HDD and work on decrypt at your leisure, see,s kind of stupid to cool up this kind of story.
But one side or the other thought they needed to!
This information was GIVEN to the feds the moment it was requested.
But it was given on the agreement that they had to make it look like they were forced into it - or else it would be the end of Apple.
The government too had to do their thing to where they wanted the country to back them up on their demands to get at personal info. It was all a matter of making you think that either were interested in your well-being.
Neither are interested in your well being.
