Role of tech who set up Clinton's server unknown to bosses at State

Soon after Hillary Clinton's arrival at the State Department in 2009, officials in the information technology office were baffled when told that a young technician would join them as a political appointee, newly disclosed emails show.

The technician, Bryan Pagliano, was running the off-grid email server that Clinton had him set up in her New York home for her work as secretary of state. But even as years passed, Pagliano's supervisors never learned of his most sensitive task, according to the department and one of his former colleagues.

Pagliano's immediate supervisors did not know the private server even existed until it was revealed in news reports last year, the colleague said, requesting anonymity because of a department ban on unauthorized interviews.

Clinton's decision to side-step the official state.gov email system has since shrouded her campaign for the U.S. presidency this year in controversy and legal uncertainty. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is conducting one of several inquiries into the arrangement, which saw classified information passing through her unsecured clintonemail.com account.

The newly disclosed emails show Patrick Kennedy, the department's under secretary for management, oversaw the hiring of Pagliano. But Clinton and the department continued to decline this week to say who, if anyone, in the government was aware of the email arrangement.

This is significant.

Clinton brought her own IT guy to State via Kennedy as a "political appointee" which is unusual, at least.

No wonder the FBI wants to talk to him bad enough to offer immunity.

"But Clinton and the department continued to decline this week to say who, if anyone, in the government was aware of the email arrangement."

I don't mean to call everyone in my government too stupid to hold a job, but the first clue which would make anyone and everyone immediately aware that there was an improper email setup would be in the first header bar on an email which ended in something other than dot gov?

I mean come on? How stupid can people be? It would be the same as writing and mailing regular letters and claiming to be unaware of who you addressed them to?

Sheeeesh!

Significant that Reuters is keeping it on top.

They would not have given him immunity unless he had something to give.

The normal procedure is to list what you would testify in exchange for immunity. So be assured that he has knowledge that he has bargained with to get the full immunity

Why this guy in particular? where did he come from to begin with? I doubt that she just picked him out of a ‘phone book. Does she know this guy or his family or anything?

If he were just Joe Tecchie from the Phonebook, him setting up a server account for Clinton, that isn’t illegal. Her using it to circumvent Federal IT accountability *is* That’s on her, not on him.

So why the prosecutorial immunity needed? What am I missing here?

She only emailed “inner circle” people.

Probably everyone assumed she had no email account, or that she never used it.

The entire IT department at State should be in prison.

He was tech savvy and a NOBODY. They bought him and paid for his secrecy.

She paid him to hide her illegal activity.

To hire this young IT guy required the UNDER-SECRETARY FOR MANAGEMENT..????

That’s the “spotted the tape blocking the Watergate door bolt” moment, I’d say...

emails are self propagating. Unless you specifically remove recipients both as sent to or copied on, the chain continues down the document as it moves about.

Was staff instructed to remove Shillary's email mark on forwarded or replied to copies sent? If so, there is another problem for a lot of people.

There has to be a connection, Hillary wouldn’t know how to pick an IT guy and tell him what to do and where to install the server and all...

At some point she had to tell someone what she wanted done, and that’s when the conspiracy started. She would not have trusted just anyone with this task.

Right...nobody was watching the mail server or monitoring her traffic. Uh huh.

If that’s true, then that’s a clear demonstration of unlawful intent, and they have her dead to rights.

I’ve been in the business for a long time. Speaking for myself and the people I’ve worked with over my career, if a cabinet-level official approached me and offered me a pile of cash to set up and administer an email server, I’d be backing away from that as fast as I could and my next call would probably be to the FBI.

Our work has made us kind of averse to shitstorms.

“The entire IT department at State should be in prison.”

Let’s hope President Trump will have a special prosecutor to go over the State Department with a fine tooth comb. The only way to stop this stuff is to make it abundantly clear what the consequences will be. Lots of jail time!

"Why this guy in particular? where did he come from to begin with?"

He was Clinton's personal IT guy during her failed 2008 nomination run.

You know what would be interesting?

HIS SALARY.

My guess is he stayed silent for as long as he did cuz he was RAKING IT IN in return for some pretty routine work.

And that would strongly suggest malfeasance.

Notice the way we haven’t been hearing from the poor Benghazi YouTube guy who got arrested by the Gestapo in the middle of the night..?

Perhaps he was IN on it..?

Maybe he was employed specifically to be a fall guy?
