Yes, the establihment hated Reagan. He was called a “dolt”, “know nothing actor” and such.

It appears to me that the major differences today are the proliferation of information sources we have today and the coarseing of our culture under years of “progressive” barrage.

These make it seem that a Trump or a Cruz is worse than any previous candidate when they are not.

Reagan had a winning policies.

Yes. Though it was not so obvious because the internet age was in its infancy, and 24-hour “news” channels had not been around. But the GOPe (in those days they were known as Rockefeller Republicans) hated Reagan.

Yes, he sure did. Less media in those days but no difference in attitude or party elite beliefs.

Yes! Absolutely! The Reagan, Trump comparison, as far as the treatment from the establishment, is nearly the same. A little more nasty towards Trump, IMHO.
