CNN anchor Jake Tapper asks Donald Trump 3 times if he would condemn David Duke and the KKK
Business Insider ^ | 02/27/2016 | Colin Campbell

CNN anchor Jake Tapper repeatedly asked Donald Trump on Sunday to denounce David Duke's support for his candidacy, but Trump insisted he didn't know anything about about the former KKK grand wizard.

"Will you unequivocally condemn David Duke and say that you don't want his vote and that of other white supremacists in this election?" Tapper asked Trump on "State of the Union."

But Trump, the Republican presidential frontrunner, said he didn't have enough information to answer the question:

I don't know anything about David Duke, OK? I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists. So I don't know. I mean, I don't know — did he endorse me or what's going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke. I know nothing about white supremacists. And so you're asking me a question that I'm supposed to be talking about people that I know nothing about.

BuzzFeed reported last week that Duke, a prominent white nationalist, urged his supporters to back Trump. Duke was quoted saying on his radio show that "voting against Donald Trump at this point is really treason to your heritage."

On his Sunday show, Tapper continued to press Trump on the subject.

"Even if you don't know about their endorsement, there are these groups and individuals endorsing you. Would you just say unequivocally that you condemn them and you don't want their support?" he asked Trump.

But Trump again insisted again he didn't know about Duke:

I have to look at the group. I mean, I don't know what group you're talking about. You wouldn't want me to condemn a group that I know nothing about. I have to look. If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them.

Everybody, including Trump haters, knows that he is not racist. (Being against illegal immigration and terrorists is not racism.)

Every political candidate should refuse to let anal-retentive, arrogant reporters put words in their mouths. “Answer the question you wanted them to ask.”

This gotcha stuff is so stupid. The media continues to lose at this game yet can’t let go of it.

Look Brilliant, We get it... you love the Cuban tag team and don’t like Donald Trump, but saying he is an idiot is inaccurate. Donald Trump reportedly has an IQ of 175 and he has made billions of dollars; those are not something an idiot could have accomplished. Your statement makes all of us wonder how brilliant you really are.

Yet another issue for the dems to shred him with (and they most assuredly will) in the general.

“It’s interesting how the republicans are supposed to condemn and disavow any sort of radical affiliation or association of any kind, no matter how indirect or distant. Yet, the democrats NEVER disavow any radicals of any kind that gravitate towards them, and aren’t expected to by the media. The dems have had former Black Panthers and former Weather Underground, and SDS members run for, and hold office without so much as a raised eyebrow.”

This is spot on.

Jake wanted to hear his own voice, not hear an answer from Trump.

The whole American political circus is embarrassing our nation. The media is nothing less than propaganda machines.

Good grief. We've devolved in this country. Candidates calling each other liars, conman, carnival barkers and so on...then during the general election fall in lock step behind the “so-called” liars, conman, carnival barkers.

We need genuine statesman. Again, just to watch some of these debates and tit-4-tats is simply embarrassing.

God save this nation.

If you don’t like mud throwers, then you must hate Trump. That’s all he does. Reagan said, “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.” That is all Trump does. He’s got nothing to say, but for his attacks on fellow Republicans.

Yawn! Black Panthers, Black Lives, etc etc etc all received legitimacy under Obama. Another gotcha interview that just won’t work. #whitelivesmatter

He was asked that question during the rally in Arkansas (I think) and when told that David Duke had endorsed him he immediately said “I disavow him”. He didn’t even have to think about it.

Yet claims to know nothing about David Duke and the KKK? But I agree with you that Trump isn’t an idiot. Instead, he’s hubristic and arrogant.

Do you Trump backers really believe that?

While Trump’s attitude horrifies me, I notice that no one ever asks any liberal politician to disavow Communist support.

Yeah, cuz everyday MSM & the GOPe trying to shred Trumo so far hasn’t been much of anything, right? Well, save for pushing Trump’s poll numbers higher & contributing to 3 landslide wins in a row & huge leads in the majority of Super Tuesday states & Florida.

Naw, Trump won’t be able to handle the “shredding” to come at all. /s

Trump is an idiot.

I'm pro-Trump, but, yeah, he did not handle that well. His answer should have been, "Of course. I denounce extremism of all forms. Now let's talk about extremism on the left for a moment."

This is a stupid and worn out trick by media talking heads. Make your target start condemning various people to keep a dialogue going about those people associated with the target as though there is a relationship.

Smarmy.

Actually saw this.

Trump is a walking disaster. Unmitigated. Stupid. The list goes on ...

If the GOP is going to nominate this fool, let’s just skip the election and coronate the Hildabeast now.

I swear I think I have slipped into an alternate universe. From Goldwater, to Nixon to Reagan to ... this???
