CNN anchor Jake Tapper asks Donald Trump 3 times if he would condemn David Duke and the KKK
Business Insider ^ | 02/27/2016 | Colin Campbell

CNN anchor Jake Tapper repeatedly asked Donald Trump on Sunday to denounce David Duke's support for his candidacy, but Trump insisted he didn't know anything about about the former KKK grand wizard.

"Will you unequivocally condemn David Duke and say that you don't want his vote and that of other white supremacists in this election?" Tapper asked Trump on "State of the Union."

But Trump, the Republican presidential frontrunner, said he didn't have enough information to answer the question:

I don't know anything about David Duke, OK? I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists. So I don't know. I mean, I don't know — did he endorse me or what's going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke. I know nothing about white supremacists. And so you're asking me a question that I'm supposed to be talking about people that I know nothing about.

BuzzFeed reported last week that Duke, a prominent white nationalist, urged his supporters to back Trump. Duke was quoted saying on his radio show that "voting against Donald Trump at this point is really treason to your heritage."

On his Sunday show, Tapper continued to press Trump on the subject.

"Even if you don't know about their endorsement, there are these groups and individuals endorsing you. Would you just say unequivocally that you condemn them and you don't want their support?" he asked Trump.

But Trump again insisted again he didn't know about Duke:

I have to look at the group. I mean, I don't know what group you're talking about. You wouldn't want me to condemn a group that I know nothing about. I have to look. If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them.

Yes I heard Trump disavow Duke’s endorsement at his presser with Christie.

Good, then what is the problem? We know what he thinks.

In this case, Trump is simply NOT going to get drawn into disowning people that support him - no different with Democrats.

If you want a guy that disowns supporters, you had one in 2008 - and how did that turn out?

Trump is not a politician and so he is not trying to be politically correct. I do not think he has to prove to a reporter that he is not a racist. The reporter brought up a subject from out of no where and tried to get Trump to talk about race. Perhaps trying to set Trump up to say something that could be construed as offensive. Trump did not take the bait. There is nothing in Trumps background that shows racism quite the contrary. He is not obligated to answer any question that a media critter throws out there!

I doubt that Trump is a racist but he appears to be senile or sadly uninformed.

Trump is too unstable to be president.

I’m glad he is clarifying it. But he couldn’t have handled the question this morning any more poorly. I don’t understand what he was thinking. It was a softball

Trump can now confirm probably what he already knew…”that is politics is dirtier than business”.
In business there is “politics” but ultimately there is “reality” when it sets in and things, the right things, have to get done or get sorted out. It they don’t then there are bankruptcies and failure.
“In politics there is no reality” and no sorting out just the politicians, 1% doners, and the covering up media playing and raping the 99% and the country - over and over and over again – they are too big to fail and they don’t give a damn!

“That’s immaterial. Trump should’ve used that opportunity to distance himself from Duke and whiffed. Badly.”

And who else should Trump distance himself from because the Media Propagandists say so? That’s what good little Republicans do.

WOPR: The only winning move is not to play.

Trump is either lying about not knowing wh Duke is, or is suffering from age-related memory problems. Trump repeatedly called out Duke when Duke joined the Reform Party.

You and three other posters on Free Republic care.

That’s your opinion of what happened & you’re entitled to it. I saw Rubio as a junior high school smart ass trying to intimidate a wise ol’ bear. He demeaned himself & his supporters in my opinion. Trump rightly told RUbio & Cruz to “keep swinging for the fences”.

They kept swinging & IMO, they whiffed.

Have a very happy Super Tuesday :)

LOL I don’t CARE if Trump knows who David Duke is. It was a “gotcha” question & Trump didn’t play along. Who cares if Duke supports him or not? Such a nothing burger.

Have a very happy Super Tuesday :)

Jake Tapper - in the 1960’s the KKK was a democrat organization.. and NO, contrary to what you’ve been told - - - democrats did NOT become Republican they stayed democrat and changed their lies. Only Maddox switched. The rest of the racist Democrats stayed democrat with KKK Dem Sen. Byrd leading the Senate for Democrats for years. They were evil then, they’re evil now. New victims..

Bull Conner was a democrat, George Wallace was a democrat, MLK was a Republican.

Same tactics by democrats - just new victims.

So, please Tapper get real... the KKK is NOT powerful - they can’t do crap and the idiots who showed up were probably paid for by democrats. Check your recent political history and you’ll see the truth.

Oh, and why the hell don’t you ask Hillary a few questions about classified emails that might have caused the deaths of Americans? Or is that ‘off limits’?

I am certainly glad that we have a resident expert in IQ scoring to discredit what a professional psychotherapist who has been in the national eye for the past 20 years wrote on this subject. But as I said this was merely one of the first results that comes up in an internet search. There is plenty of other documentation that demonstrate that Trump has a great deal of intellectual capacity.

Still if you want to stick with those here who prefer one liners over substance. It really makes little difference to me. I have fun imagining what all the geniuses around here who post “Trump is dumb” and then giggle to themselves thinking how much smarter they are than someone who has made billions of dollars and has now thrown the GOPe into full blown panic. I apologize but to me that is a funny picture.

On the Duke question alone, it seems as if Tapper served up a softball. It was an easy opportunity for Trump to distance himself from the Klan and he blew it. I’m not a Tapper fan by any means and he does frequently ask gotcha questions but this was a valid question made so by Duke looking for publicity.

The point is, the Dems don’t “distance themselves” from ANYBODY.
