CNN anchor Jake Tapper asks Donald Trump 3 times if he would condemn David Duke and the KKK

CNN anchor Jake Tapper repeatedly asked Donald Trump on Sunday to denounce David Duke's support for his candidacy, but Trump insisted he didn't know anything about about the former KKK grand wizard.

"Will you unequivocally condemn David Duke and say that you don't want his vote and that of other white supremacists in this election?" Tapper asked Trump on "State of the Union."

But Trump, the Republican presidential frontrunner, said he didn't have enough information to answer the question:

I don't know anything about David Duke, OK? I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists. So I don't know. I mean, I don't know — did he endorse me or what's going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke. I know nothing about white supremacists. And so you're asking me a question that I'm supposed to be talking about people that I know nothing about.

BuzzFeed reported last week that Duke, a prominent white nationalist, urged his supporters to back Trump. Duke was quoted saying on his radio show that "voting against Donald Trump at this point is really treason to your heritage."

On his Sunday show, Tapper continued to press Trump on the subject.

"Even if you don't know about their endorsement, there are these groups and individuals endorsing you. Would you just say unequivocally that you condemn them and you don't want their support?" he asked Trump.

But Trump again insisted again he didn't know about Duke:

I have to look at the group. I mean, I don't know what group you're talking about. You wouldn't want me to condemn a group that I know nothing about. I have to look. If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them.

My first guess is to make an issue of it. To imply something that really is not there. I can see ,for example, Trump agreeing to what Tapper wants and then the media reporting for months that there were some serious questions about Trump’s ties to the klan and he had no choice to distance himself from the klan. In reality there were no such connections to the klan but the media will imply it.

How many times have you heard that Trump accused Mexicans of being drug dealers and rapists when he never ever said this. I can see the media making an issue out of the klan for the black voters when that is completely ridiculous.

No. Hillary would lose to both Rubio and Cruz. Yet we’re nominating the candidate who has no chance against her.

Ask Hillary if she condemns race baiter Al Sharpton.

Duke is such a penny ante jerk that maybe Donald has never heard of him. Frankly, I thought he was dead.

If Tapper had been smart enough to ask if he condemned racism, prejudice, and white supremacy, then he would have had his answer.

But he had to press on about a nobody named David Duke, and Donald did the right thing in making no judgment until he had the facts.

David Duke is not widely known. Those who have heard about him and have done their homework on him are in the minority. In my view, people that spend their time engaged on the subject of David Duke, have too much time on their hands or poor judgment. He really is a nobody.

If Duke were a somebody, then all this would be cast in an entirely different light. But he is in fact, a nobody and giving a nobody attention is a waste of time and in the case of David Duke, a disservice to the public.

Duke does not deserve any attention unless he develops a significant following which is impossible because he’s garbage to start with. Most people do not spend time studying or following garbage.

Trump has a firm grip on 35-40% of the GOP. The rest of the GOP will likely either not vote or will vote Democrat. The Democrats will vote for Hillary. I’m not just making this up. The polls consistently show that he loses to Hillary by a wide margin. Even if he should win, I am not sure he would be better than Hillary. They are both liberals.

Trump has nothing to do with crack pots like Duke. This is just the meme du jour to attack Trump. He’s trying to not go into that tar pit and will need to adjust his message a bit.

Cruz is at 12% in a GOP primary in Alabama. And he’s going to beat Hillary in a general? How many mimosas has you had this morning. LOL.

I agree. Trump knows there is a trap with this Duke thing and does not want to give Tapper the red meat he wants.

“Mr. Trump painted a fairly dark picture of the Reform Party in his statement, noting the role of Mr. Buchanan, along with the roles of David Duke, a former leader of the Ku Klux Klan, and Lenora Fulani, the former standard-bearer of the New Alliance Party and an advocate of Marxist-Leninist politics.

“The Reform Party now includes a Klansman, Mr. Duke, a neo-Nazi, Mr. Buchanan, and a communist, Ms. Fulani,” he said in his statement. “This is not company I wish to keep.”

Hmm, he sure knew who he was in 2000.

When Trapper gets another chance, he can ask Donald about this pass that Donald asked for to update his information.

Donald can say:

Look, Jake, I thought we were over the time of McCarthyism. Do you have a further list of names as we might as well get out on the table who is not allowed to be in public. Can the Hillary supporters from the Muslim Brotherhood be out here -- does she have to disavow them? Bernie was socialist for a long time -- I understand he says he is a democrat now, but are socialists allowed to change our government and do communists need to stay out of elections as I hear they are supporting someone this cycle.

But back to your question, my research has shown that historically the bulk of the KKK were democrats supporting Democrat controlled Jim Crow, so they won't be supporting me, a Republican, my party freed the slaves. Now with most of the Klan gone there are small fringe groups that aren't affiliated with any party, skin-heads, Nazis and the like. When we have the disavowal of the groups I mentioned earlier by the Democrats in the race, then I will start looking at little cases of political clubs and the like.

We shouldn't really be returning to the days of McCarthyism, Jake, that is not going to make America Great Again,

Me: “I hate the media. Trump is the only one who refuses to grant them unquestioned legitimacy. They are evil and do not represent the American Middle Class or Traditional American Values.”

You: “I don’t understand your point. Could you clarify. It sounds really interesting I am just not following it exactly. Thanks.”

Me: Do you work for CNN?

If you want to look at the polls then look at the right poll: the poll concerning a Cruz-Hillary matchup. Cruz comes out on top. The primary polls are irrelevant once you have the nomination. Trump only gets 30-40% in the primary polls. And that’s about what he gets in a Trump-Hillary matchup too.
