Why is everything amnesty? Let's Understand the Definition of the Term Shall We?

Senator Cruz and Rubio will argue a lot about amnesty in the next few days. I guess that standing against amnesty has become the new flag that every GOP candidate wants to carry.

Yet, who is actually calling for amnesty? Or something like what President Reagan did in 1986?

Have they changed the definition of the word amnesty? According to the dictionary, amnesty is "the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals."

Who is pardoning any group or letting people stay here without consequences?

The GOP should be for an immigration solution that enforces the law against employers and protects the border. At the same time, what is wrong with offering some of those here a chance to stay here? It would go like this:

1) The illegal immigrant would be given a chance to apply for a work visa supported by an employer's letter that a job actually exists;

2) He or she would undergo a full criminal background check including fingerprints. We will also check with the home country to verify that the applicant is not married here and back home;

3) The applicant will pay a fine for violating the law and or not filing tax returns;

4) He or she will be under a period of probation where the person could be deported in case of any violation of law;

5) No path to citizenship or green card will be available to this person; and,

6) Employers will be harshly punished, including jail time, for hiring someone without papers.

How is that amnesty? Who is getting off free for violating the law?

That's what I've been saying all along. When YOU...and I mean YOU personally speak....Please define amnesty BEFORE you blurt out your plan.

Cruz sounds exactly like Seinfeld's soup Nazi.

If amnesty does ever come to fruition...

How about no dual citizenship. Either you are a US citizen or you are not. And if you don’t accept the deal, you will be found and sent home at the very first opportunity.

Letting anyone, from any country, stay here who came here illegally is AMNESTY.

the definition has been refined to “ any person that enters illegally and is allowed to stay under any circumstances” has been given amnesty

Failure to enforce the laws decided upon by the peoples representatives is Amnesty and Treason.

Amnesty is any change to laws that allows those breaking them to benefit from that change.

Never again.

We did that in 1986 and it resulted in 10 times the number of illegal aliens.

Fool me once..........

Yes, Silvio, by all means, let’s entrust enforcement of your brand new fantasy immigration laws to the same folks who are steadfastly refusing to enforce the current ones. That should solve it right quick like.

I have a rule: anyone who hasn’t been in the country long enough to know when to use the plural form of ‘Senator’ doesn’t get to have an opinion on immigration.

Amnesty is when you don’t shoot a burglar.

We need gunships, killer drones and land mines on the borders.

No not at all.

There is Legalization Amnesty and there is Citizenship Amnesty.

Two types of legalization amnesty are an In-Place Legalization Amnesty and a Touch Back Legalization Amnesty, which includes being deported and then cutting the long quota line to be "expedited" back.

Trump was for an In Place Legalization Amnesty before the end of July 2015. Since then, Trump has been for a Touch Back Legalization Amnesty.

In July, Trump also said that he might consider a Citizenship Amnesty for later for those who have been legalized.

All of these types of amnesty would be a disaster for our country.

Why ?

I kind'a LIKE it and, in all honesty ... I never really analyzed the word

I see that, once we put "amnesty" into the perspective of a proper definition, coming up with a solution is a lot easier.

So again I ask ... why don't you like the plan ?

And to think, it took 1900 pages to say that. Sounds like a reasonable position when you only analyze the talking points, but how does that square with the pages and pages of exemptions, exceptions, and exonerations? And if it isn’t amnesty, why do we have to provide so much government funding? Why does this “not-amnesty” ignore certain laws the illegal aliens broke? Like the law those two people who exposed Planned Parenthood violated in Texas. Every single illegal alien here has broken the same law.

Which is why Trump says that they must go and then (the good ones) can come back.

Such a touch back fools some into thinking that it isn't amnesty and that everything is fine.

I’ve got a better idea.

Send them home.

ALL of them.

EVERY last (bleeping) one of them.

We got the same son and dance when Reagan passed it in 1986 and NOTHING happened.

You want amnesty, OK, can come in and you get a green card but you will NEVER be allowed to vote.

This will send the Democrats into a frenzy, just say to them, “so, is it not true that the only reason you want amnesty is to swell democrat voter rolls?”
