Donald Trump Taps Foreign Work Force for His Florida Club
New York Times ^ | February 16, 2016 | CHARLES V. BAGLI and MEGAN TWOHEY

Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach describes itself as “one of the most highly regarded private clubs in the world,” and it is not just the very-well-to-do who want to get in.

Since 2010, nearly 300 United States residents have applied or been referred for jobs as waiters, waitresses, cooks and housekeepers there. But according to federal records, only 17 have been hired.

In all but a handful of cases, Mar-a-Lago sought to fill the jobs with hundreds of foreign guest workers from Romania and other countries.

In his quest for the Republican presidential nomination, Mr. Trump has stoked his crowds by promising to bring back jobs that have been snatched by illegal immigrants or outsourced by corporations, and voters worried about immigration have been his strongest backers.

But he has also pursued more than 500 visas for foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago since 2010, according to the United States Department of Labor, while hundreds of domestic applicants failed to get the same jobs.

The visas are issued through one of a handful of legal and often-debated programs through which employers can temporarily hire foreign workers when American labor is not available. As part of its applications for the visas submitted to the Labor Department, Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago attested that in the vast majority of cases it was unable to fill the positions with American workers, or, as he told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” in September, “getting help in Palm Beach during the season is almost impossible.”

Asked why his club must seek so many foreign workers when Americans have applied for the same positions, Mr. Trump said in a telephone interview from Mar-a-Lago this month: “The only reason they wouldn’t get a callback is that they weren’t qualified, for some reason.”

Getting American workers in Palm Beach is quite possible if you offer a high enough wage. Trump as a businessman can choose not to do that, but then it is hypocritical to bash other businesses for doing the same thing.

Someone should bring this up in the debate and Trump should speak to it then, if not before.

The NY Times is arguing against itself.

Yesterday they said that Trump hates immigrants.

Typical liberal retards.

I don’t blame a businessperson for doing what they need to do to remain in business.

The idea should be lift the oppressive regulatory conditions that make hiring Americans not cost-effective.

Why? They are working legally and Trump is running a business not a charity.

Breaking News: Trump legally hires temporary foreign workers as needed. Trump shows there is a proper way to hire foreign workers. Just as there is a proper way for a foreigner to become a legal citizen.

Cruz and Rubio never have hired foreigners...mainly because they have no executive experience and have never created a single job in their life.

Businesses have to compete. If visas are suspended then ALL BUSINESSES WILL BEGIN PAYING WAGES THAT ATTRACT AMERICANS. Trump admitted ON DAY ONE that he has played the cards he has been handed to succeed.

I’m an employer in Minnesota. I could increase my business if I had a reliable supply of workers, which I don’t. Trying to hire laborers and general help is very difficult these days. Many people don’t want to work. And why would they work when they can make a good living off handouts? The gimmedat generation is destroying many American industries.

The political hit machine is in full force.

If we listen and go with Rubio until they decided its time to turn on Rubio, they win.

That’s why I don’t give a sht what the MSM says.

At my previous employer, a small heavy/highway contractor in Connecticut, the average of our labor force was 47 years old. 42 if you didn’t count the operators.

It is tough to find young kids willing to work hard for 60 grand a year plus overtime.

Doesn't matter.

As Trump keeps pointing out, he could start shooting people in public and his brain-dead fans would still worship him.

He insults his own cultists with points like that and they still worship him.

The closest person with his talent I can remember was Jim Jones,
