SALT LAKE CITY -- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is the top pick of Utah voters in the GOP presidential race but is closely followed by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, according to a new poll released Monday.
The national front-runner for the Republican nomination, business mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump, trails behind Cruz, Rubio and "don't know" in the UtahPolicy.com poll.
The poll comes the same day as Trump supporters in Utah were scheduled to announce the formation of the Trump for President-Utah organization in a news conference on the steps of the state Capitol.
Trump backers in the Legislature announced Monday were Senate Majority Leader Ralph Okerlund, R-Monroe; Senate Majority Whip Stuart Adams, R-Layton; Sen. David Hinkins, R-Orangeville; and Sen. Kevin Van Tassell, R-Vernal.
Utah's Trump organization will be headed by Ret. U.S. Air Force Gen. Robert Oaks, who said Trump "knows that a strong America is the best defense from terror and groups that would tear down our country."
The poll was conducted Feb. 10-15 of 625 Utahns by Dan Jones & Associates and has a margin of error of plus or minus just under 4 percent. Voters were also asked their choice in the Democratic presidential race.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is the big leader among Democratic presidential candidates, with 41 percent of Utahns saying they'd vote for him if the election were today, compared to 19 percent for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Utah, which has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate in more than 50 years, is not holding a traditional primary election this year. Instead, Republicans and Democrats will hold caucus meetings on March 22 to choose their nominees.
The caucus votes are expected to get a boost from Utah's first-ever presidential debate on March 21. The venue and the media sponsor have yet to be announced by the national Republican Party.
The Utah elite and the Church are cheap labor express too.
I love the Utahns most of the time, but they love RINOs and the ones that don’t vote Constitution Party.
You should see our Presidential ballot...eye roll.
Any poll that doesn’t show Trump ON TOP by a huge margin is obviously based on fraud.
Don’t make him threaten MORE law-suits!
And will threaten a lawsuit if Don’t Know appears in more polls.
I have consistently said I think Cruz will win TX and UT.
And lose everything else.
Wasn’t Ruby a part-time Mormon when he lived in Vegas?
He knows the secret handshake.
Noooo.... don’t drop out!
The best thing for Trump is a fractured field where his rock solid 30% is a win.
Lets have Cruz, Rubio fight it out, and Carson spoil Cruz, and Kasich spoil Rubio, all the way to the 50 states.
Let Trump run the table!

Yes. Hate to use the Think Progress article but it covers all of Rubio’s Including Baptists...
But Rubio’s longtime affiliation with Catholicism includes an important asterisk: He, along with his mother and sister, was once a Mormon.
The Rubio family’s brief stint with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) began in the late 1970s, shortly after they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where his father landed a job as a bartender. Once there, Rubio’s mother became enamored with the healthy lifestyle embodied by several of their Mormon neighbors, especially their emphasis on family.
“My mother desperately wanted to give her kids a wholesome environment,” he told Christianity Today in 2012. “We had extended family members who were and remain active members of the LDS church, which does provide a very wholesome environment.”
Before long, he, along with his mother and sister, were all baptized into the church, and Rubio joined the Cub Scout pack sponsored by the congregation. He even attended parades commemorating the Mormon exodus to Utah, “where children dressed as early church pioneers and reenacted their journey to the West.”
I immersed myself in LDS theology, and understood it as well as an eight-year-old mind can.
In his book, Rubio describes his mother’s interest in the LDS church as primarily driven by family concerns, noting, “I don’t believe [she] ever really understood Mormon theology.” Rubio, however, took the conversion far more seriously.
“I immersed myself in LDS theology, and understood it as well as an eight-year-old mind can,” he wrote. “Although my school grades were never impressive, I was a voracious reader, and I studied church literature and other sources of information to learn all I could about the church’s teachings.” http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/10/09/3710527/marco-rubio-religious-syncretism/
Rubio is kind of an odd duck just out to make a living, I think.
Utah is March 22nd. A month from now. Cruz better worry about a few closer dates before this one.
Hahahahahahahaha
