Thank you so much, from my heart, dearest Guenevere.
Your thoughtful post means more to me than I can express.

I was at Kroger’s when the tragic news about Scalia was announced. I only had 6 items in my cart, but after checking out and paying for all six, when I brought the two bags inside, I was missing 2 items. I watched those 2 items going into the bag. I cannot account for those 2 missing items ... just too upset and sad, I guess. Lost them somewhere ...

I didn’t participate on the Scalia thread or on Trump debate thread because I was too upset, but I did watch the debate.

Amen to what you wrote:

If God has called Trump ......He will equip him for the task ahead and deliver to him the Presidency.
If God is not in this......it will not happen.
I happen to believe God is in this, and is way ahead of us.

We live by faith, not by sight!

What I am saying, debate is debate, insults and childish slander are quite another.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE: A show where no one acts Presidential, and there is little real debate.

Trump always seems to take it to another level.

He is the one that is attacked the most, why should he not do all he can to defend himself ?

The whole damn thing is just ugly.

Right.

If they don't stop, there could be unintended consequences to all this.

Exactly who is 'they' ?

My Father was a combat engineer during the Ardennes and Rheinland Campaigns.

Pergrin's bunch?

Oddly I was just watching the 2016 "Against all Odds" special on the 291st. Something stuck with me when they were interviewing the survivors. They rightly claimed the CEs were the most decorated companies in the Ardennes. They did not receive recognition for it until 60 years later. Always competitive they said a bunch of people dropped out of planes and had to be rescued by the US Army and got all the glory. LOL.

My Father was with the 277th Company B (organic unit). Same situation. They were all sitting around cutting timber because the war was over. They were woken early in the battle and told to drop everything and to take up defensive positions with few weapons and poor clothing. My Father was actually a trained marksman so it was not as bad (still very bad) as what happened to the 291st. The 291st was a non-combat support unit.

We been having trouble because of the St. Louis fire trying to track down all the personal and unit awards for the 277th. There were 3 bronze, 1 silver and a Presidential Unit Citation on my Father's discharge. We figured out a couple of them, however are still working on the one of the bronze and silver.

His company never talked about it and many were located locally. They had bowling teams and admittedly drank a lot. The last of his group died two years ago.

Took a bit of time to find out what one bar on his uniform. We were able to track down the groups he was with and found this:

The completed bridge was 1756 feet long. It had a fixed span 400 feet, supported by timber piers. The construction time for the bridge was seventy-two hours. This was a rapid construction considering the delay in receiveing materials due to the congested roads and the smoke and fog which made movement of craft in the river difficult. The bridge was opened to traffic on March 29, 1945 and was used to run supplies to Allied troops as part of Operation Varsity. The bridge at Wallach was proclaimed the longest of the temporary bridges in the European Theater of Operations. The 277th Combat Engineer Battalion was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation in recognition of the effort required for its construction.

They were all heroes. The 291st was exceptional.
