Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz said he will not discipline staffers who spread a rumor that Ben Carson was going to drop out of the race in an attempt to get Carson supporters to caucus for Cruz in Iowa. Cruz appeared on the Mike Gallager Show on Wednesday and talked about staffers who pushed a report that Carson wasn't going on to campaign in New Hampshire or South Carolina.

That’s a terrible headline. They make it sound like the rumor originated with Cruz’s staffers, when the rumor really originated with Ben Carson, and then was reported by CNN as though he was dropping out!

From another thread, it seems that the timeline was:
about 4 PM or so, CNN tweeted that Cruz was going to Florida for R&R.
It was re-tweeted by Team Rubio at about 6:30 PM
Team Cruz re-tweeted it near the start of the caucus at about 7 PM.

It’s one thing to think he’s going to drop out.
It’s another thing to act as if he is or already has and tell his voters to change their support as a result.
They both made a play on something they weren’t sure of, because they wanted to benefit. They exploited the new guy.
It wasn’t a good thing to do.
How about Carson taking responsibility for his own press release? CNN accurately reported what his campaign said. His actions of leaving Iowa and not resuming the campaign trail for several days is bizarre.
Well, he coulda blamed it on an intern...
I’m stunned at this.
Carson’s campaign existed to sabotage the campaigns of both Cruz and Trump, so I don’t really mind his campaign being sabotaged. Turnabout is fair play in politics.
Cruz is a dead end. His campaign is a catastrophe in the waiting.
Im not stunned that cruz isn’t doing anything.
As carson said, he isn’t doing anything cause he condones it. This is who carson is.

Sorry Ben you did it to yourself. No dirty tricks here. You can’t say you’re taking some time off to wash your underwear right before the caucus and expect everyone to believe you’re going to go home and wash your underwear.
You are running for President right? Act like a man and not someone who is having fun on the presidential circuit building his cred for some speaking fees.
Cruz and Rubio would be idiots to not relay this information ASAP to their volunteers.
