In Scathing Open Letter, Pro-Life Leaders Urge Iowa: Support Anyone But "Unacceptable" Donald Trump

Some of the country's most respected and committed pro-life leaders have written a scathing, open letter to Iowa voters warning about Donald Trump's long-held pro-choice record just one week before voters head to caucus.

First, the leaders:

-Executive Director Iowa Right to Life Jenifer Bowen,

-Concerned Women for America Member and Iowa Volunteer Denise Bubeck,

-Iowa Right to Life Director of Educational Outreach Kendra Burger

-Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser

-Iowa Pro-life Activist Christine Hurley

-Concerned Women for America Founder and Chairman Beverly LaHaye

-Former Congresswoman and Susan B. Anthony List VP of Government Affairs Marilyn Musgrave

-Concerned Women for America President and CEO Penny Nance

-Urbancure Founder and President Star Parker

-Operation Outcry Iowa Leader Luana Stoltenberg,

The letter:

Dear Iowans,

As pro-life women leaders from Iowa and across the nation, we urge Republican caucus-goers and voters to support anyone but Donald Trump. On the issue of defending unborn children and protecting women from the violence of abortion, Mr. Trump cannot be trusted and there is, thankfully, an abundance of alternative candidates with proven records of pro-life leadership whom pro-life voters can support. We have come to this conclusion after having listened patiently to numerous debates and news reports, but most importantly to Donald Trump's own words.

The next president will be responsible for as many as four nominations to the Supreme Court. Mr. Trump has given us only one indication about the type of judges he would appoint, and it does not bode well for those who would like to see the court overturn Roe v. Wade. Mr. Trump has said his sister, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, who struck down the Partial Birth Abortion Ban in New Jersey, would be a "phenomenal" choice for the court. Earlier this month, Mr. Trump also said he thought pro-choice Senator Scott Brown would make a "very good" Vice President. If one truly believes, as we do, that abortion is the taking of an innocent human life and is committed to the pro-life priorities of ending abortion after five months, and defunding the nation's largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, it would be a disaster to have a vice president who disagrees.

Moreover, as women, we are disgusted by Mr. Trump's treatment of individuals, women, in particular. He has impugned the dignity of women, most notably Megyn Kelly, he mocked and bullied Carly Fiorina, and has through the years made disparaging public comments to and about many women. Further, Mr. Trump has profited from the exploitation of women in his Atlantic City casino hotel which boasted of the first strip club casino in the country.

America will only be a great nation when we have leaders of strong character who will defend both unborn children and the dignity of women. We cannot trust Donald Trump to do either. Therefore we urge our fellow citizens to support an alternative candidate.

Trump is currently neck-in-neck with pro-life candidate Ted Cruz in the Hawkeye State.

So they're wrapping themselves up in pro-life AND the war on women. What a hit piece!

As a side note to this thread, while I commend pro-life leaders for defending the unborn, please consider the following.

With all due respect to mom & pop, as a consequence of parents not making sure that their children are being taught about the Constitution, particularly 10th Amendment-protected state powers versus constitutionally non-enumerated ”rights,” the generation of citizens that first heard the post-17th Amendment ratification Supreme Courts misguided decision that having an abortion is constitutional, along with the generations that followed that decision, were not able to argue the following against the Courts decision.

The states have never amended the Constitution to include the word abortion. So the Constitutions silence about abortion means two things.

In other words, what corrupt justices did was not only to steal legislative powers to establish the fictitious constitutional right from the bench to have an abortion, but they breached the Founding States division of state and federal government powers and stole 10th Amendment-protected state legislative powers to do so.

Remember in November !

When patriots elect Trump, Cruz, or whatever conservative they elect, they will also need to elect a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will be willing to not only work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers to support the president, but also be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring, pro-abortion activist justices.

Cruz refused to pander on ethanol. Branstad came out againsr Cruz. It’s Iowa. Your call whether standing firm on ethanol reflects well or poorly on Cruz.

Now I know who to STOP sending donations to!

Good idea! I'm sure Planned Parenthood will love to have your money.

Once again, in order to support Trump, I'm being told that I need to jettison the people who have been fighting for conservative principles for years for someone whose conservative bona fides are based on talk about what he will do in the future (as opposed to what he said a few months ago). I just don't get it...

Star Parker? Wow.

Look, Schlafly is pro life.
So is Falwell.
So is Palin.

I understand the angst.

Still undecided, but this division really hurts the Republicans.

I still say to the GOP-e: Voters gave you landslides in 2010 and 2014...and you haven’t kept the promise. The mess you’re trying to fathom right now is a direct result of your failure to deliver. Or even fight hard.

Donald as well as many people who where for abortion at one time can change there opinion and be firmly Pro Life! I am highly disappointed in these groups for doing this.

I think he's a liar.

When confronted with the Planned Parenthood issue he dodged it by saying the funding should go to other areas of this business. He knows money going to other areas frees up money to fund abortions. Also, when asked about being pro-life he says it's because a friend had a child and now loves the child. What a pile of nonsense. He doesn't talk about protecting the most defenseless in our country. He doesn't talk about life being a gift from God. He doesn't talk about the need to make adoptions easier.

He's just saying what he thinks the conservative "rubes" want to hear and you know what he's getting away with it.

For prolifers, what’s more important, stopping abortion or electing a candidate who was pro abortion a few years ago?

“Like Governors”, no I have no issue with that. I have an issue with a non profit coming out against someone because even when they both say they have same position, the non profit says it must not be true don’t vote for him......... it is National Review organization take 2. Trying to define who qualifies as being pro life or what the definition of being pro life is. Better to say nothing or just who you a for.
