They could have just towed the disabled boat back out into international waters. This is something else entirely. The straits are only a few miles wide. We have a carrier fleet patrolling in there. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.
Sounds like Ash Carter must be about up to his eyebrows in frustration.
I was wondering what the distance to shore is in that area. It looks narrow, so the “lost at sea” thing is ridiculous as they would have had visual landmarks and really would not have needed electronic equipment to navigate. Another thing, iran is saying both vessels lost their navigational equipment, which seems almost impossible unless they were both intentionally jammed. Even at that, ten sailors and no one has the ability to manually dead reckon or chart a route the old fashioned way? Plus, there had to be alarms notifying them in advance that they were approaching Iranian water. I would also assume these vessels each had two engines, and could have operated on one, so they lost both?
“They could have just towed the disabled boat back out into international waters.”
Not if they were ordered to stay put they couldn’t.
I don't trust him.
He was selected for a reason, and one of the most important criteria of such a high position, especially after Panetta and Hagel, was that he does the will of his master.
