... After gaining control of two casinos through deals that loaded them with debt, [Trump] turned in 1987 to the Taj Mahal, a megaproject being built by publicly traded Resorts International Inc.
Mr. Trump bought a class of shares that gave him just a slice of Resortsâ equity, but voting control. From that perch, he pushed through a service contract that would have the company pay him $108 million over five years. He told casino regulators the company could raise the cash needed to finish its casino only by assuring lenders Mr. Trump would remain involved, which this contract did.
Upon news that funding was uncertain, Resortsâ stock plunged. Mr. Trump then told investors the only way to finish the Taj Mahal was for him to buy Resorts at just above its reduced share price. Construction lenders, he said, were put off in part by the high cost of his service contract.

Cruz is about to do himself in because either he or democrat 5 columnists have unleashed their ground game punks onto the social media.
This will undo Cruz. Why? Too thin skinned.
Cruz needed to ignore these Trump jibes and is now proving that he is too thin skinned to become president. Thtas really not a good thing for anyone.Cruz for some reason has entered self destruct mode.
Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate (even if he's "rich enough to do it on his own") as the next President.
I donate to the candidate I support and you should too, else, your "support" really doesn't have any meaning.
It's even worse if you use FR and don't donate. If you are one of those who feel it's OK to use FR daily w/o helping pay to keep the lights on, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches because, functionally, you are no different than any other who enjoys the fruits of others' work for your own benefit. Also, don't be surprised if others decide that your opinions are as worthless as your non-donations - hypocrites aren't worth listening to.
PS - If you are one of those unlucky few who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....
After reading the article, I like him more!!!!!!
Awww..you were appalled? That’s too bad. Trump sounds like the guy I want in the CEO chair for the country.
When you really understand what happened in Resorts, it's hilarious, isn't it?
Almost all of the 'debt' WSJ bleats about was built-in long before Trump got involved. Long story short: Merv Griffin pissed off Trump (Trump knew about Merv's proclivities -- "I tell everybody that I'm a quarter-sexual. I will do anything with anybody for a quarter." -- and did not like Merv - at all), and Trump decided to go mano a mano. Trump depreciated Merv's interest in Resort to the point where Merv took the rump end of the deal, then Merv proclaimed how happy he was (because he managed to save his beloved Paradise Island casino, which promptly lost hundreds of millions in value in a very short time).
Republicans are going to have to ask themselves the question about Trump: ‘Do we want a candidate who could be in a mental hospital in two years?’ That’d be a big problem. It’d be a very precarious one for Republicans because he’d be running and then he would break down at some point. You don’t want to be running and have that kind of thing over your head.
I’d hate to see something like that get in his way. But a lot of people are talking about it and I know that even some mental health professionals have concerns, the fact that he shows clear signs of mental instability and could break down at any point.
Here’s what I think I’d do: I’d go and seek a full psychiatric screening if I was Donald. You go see a psychiatrist. You go to a doctor to ask for what’s called a psychological screening. You go in seeking a clean bill of psychiatric health from the doctor, even if you think you’re doing just great. That’s part of the problem with mental illness, it’s hard to detect in yourself. Donald could go right in, do it quickly. It can go quickly. Clean bill of health, very good.
LOL
You have no idea who I will cast a vote for in the primary or election.
Those who are suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome (including the GOPe) are looking for various silver bullets to knock Trump out of the race.
Trump is not following the traditional play book, and this has frustrated those who think they know how to kick folks off ballot with tactics that would have been successful in the past.
Among your various skills, do not attempt to be a mind reader.
