And flamboyant or not, Trump is not the fool Obama or Jimmy Carter is.

No, he's not. But he's still blurts out things that he has to later qualify.

"They all have to go home" was later modified by "The good ones can come back".

The "no more Muslims" position had to be clarified by "it doesn't apply to American citizens or political or business leaders of Muslim nations".

I could go on. But you get the point. Trump may be an experienced negotiator, but he's not used to having his public word taken as seriously as his private word. Foreign governments, however, will parse every public statement...or aside...for meaning.

For all his linguistic flaws, George W. Bush understood this requirement of the presidency and never said something in public he didn't mean or couldn't back up. I don't doubt he's capable of it, but Trump will have to learn the same kind of self-control.

Bull, he never said that. He was talking about immigration and refugees not visitor visas.

"self-control" = political correctness.

He does that and he is cooked.

In negotiation it makes sense to advocate for more than you want, then "settle" for what you wanted. Both the examples that you alleged fit that pattern. The "requirement" that you are advocating seems to be one of being bad at negotiation.

Frankly I think it is motivated by a desire to appear immune to absurd criticism.

For example. Blaming a country as being bad for not letting you migrate to it, or for wanting you to leave if you snuck in illegally is absurd. If it was such a bad country, go to a better country and be glad. Or make your own country a better country.

My own requirement for a President is immunity from being bullied by absurd slanderous bitching. I think that is a thousand times better than being bad at negotiations by asking for too little because you are too afraid to hurt the feelings of people who have contrary interests.

Bush never backed up shit and gave us the muzzie in the hut now.One of the reasons Trump is doing so well is that former republicans had enough of being shit on by the political classless bastards and we want a hard case in there this time.
