Texas Sen. Ted Cruz declined to close the door to a potential pathway to legal status for the 11 million people in the U.S. illegally Friday, saying he wouldnât elaborate on his plans for them until after the border is secure.
Seeking to carve out a space between real estate mogul Donald Trump, who is calling for the forcible deportation of those in the U.S. illegally, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who co-authored the Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform bill that included a pathway to citizenship, Cruz would not explicitly rule out a pathway to legal status for the undocumented.

Hatchet job.
And this is why Cruz is probably not going to zoom past Trump any time soon.
Like OBamaTRADE, Cruz will play it both ways
for Goldmann Sachs and his wife.
And I’d acknowledge they are both, like all candidates, imperfect.
But I think they would make a great team, in some ways balancing each other out.
I am done with establishment GOP. It’s either one or both of them for me or nothing. I refuse to support RINOism with a vote. Been there done that too many times.
There are no other candidates on that slate for whom I’d vote.
I can understand that.
Might be there myself.
Yep. He's the most inside "outsider" I've ever seen.
Cruz has already prevented millions from receiving amnesty by blocking the gang of 8.
Trump has done nothing but help elect the dems who fought for amnesty.
As I see it, sadly, whether we like it or not, there will be millions of now-illegal people legalized by the next president. The alternative is to simply permanently deport those people...which would bring our economy to a halt - which is why not even Trump goes that far.
The question is how will this legalization be done. Here’s how I see it:
Trump: They will go home, and then come back under our terms, which, in the best case, could be as guest workers for pre-defined amounts of time, with their families staying home. After they conclude their work, they go home and join their families (and a lot richer). Family visits would be allowed in both directions, but tightly controlled when the family comes to the US. Overstay a visa, job gone and deportation.
Cruz: Technically Cruz could follow Trump’s path, but he’s keeping his options open, with one of those options simply being that they stay (with their families) and get legalized. Of course the problem with that is that in 20 years, we’ll be flooded with millions of new Democrats. Another option is that the breadwinner stays, becomes a guest workers, but the rest of the family has to go home. I don’t see that happening.
Rubio (when he’s not lying) and the rest: Virtually all of them become citizens with 15 years, the only differences being how long until they are citizens and how many more do we invite in (or let slip in).
Trump wins in my book and Cruz is better than the rest.
ALso:
Cruz voted to give Hussein plenary power to make any deal he wanted with Iran.
Cruz voted to do the same with the Trade deal which promises to fasten all the AGW crap on us and totally end Free Trade.
Cruz promoted enthusiastically the expansion of H1B.
Cruz is a Constitutional scholar but has shown repeatedly atrocious judgment.
“Even Trump has a plan that lets current illegals become citizens.”
Cruz says build a fence, and then have a conversation about what to do with the ones already here. Weasel words for amnesty.
Trump says deport them all and then have a conversation about who to allow back in.
Significant difference.
Go Donald!!!
I just got this link from a newer thread. You may want to read it all. I was 100% Cruz, but worried about his contributors.
“*Currently on leave from Goldman Sachs â While on the Council of Foreign Relations HEIDI S. CRUZ completed a task force report on Building a North American Global Community â she was also an energy investment banker with Merrill Lynch in Houston, Texas. She served in the Bush White House under Dr. Condoleezza Rice as the Economic Director for the Western Hemisphere at the National Security Council, as the Director of the Latin America Office at the U.S. Treasury Department, and as Special Assistant to Ambassador Robert B. Zoellick, U.S. Trade Representative. Prior to government service, Mrs. Cruz was an investment banker with J.P. Morgan in New York City.”
There is more with reference links. I’m pretty upset.
I know of NO illegal alien that breaks only a SINGLE law: driving, I9/W2, EITC, etc. Identity theft and fraud that affects, and COSTS, millions of Citizens will little to no recourse; let alone assistance of our OWN govt (State and Fed), whom aide and abet the criminals.
The door to their ‘pathway’ should CLOSE, after they reach their home country; we have enough of our own criminals to import more.
IMHO until someone else joins Trump in the commitment to enforce the rule of law, he will remain your leader.
He’s not adding a VAT, he is replacing corporate and payroll taxes with a 16% flat tax. That’s a much lower rate of tax on businesses. Personal income tax s at a flat rate of 10% for everybody.
It’s a VAT. And a VAT is one of the most insidious taxes ever devised, as it hides the cost from the real taxpayers. The experience worldwide, with Europe as Exhibit A, has pretty universally been of such taxes introduced at a low level and then jacked up pretty quickly. Doubled up with a personal income tax, that’s how you get the “democratic socialism” of Europe that Bernie claims to want to emulate.
Yes. They need to stop lying about the number of foreigners in this country illegally. It would not be a problem if it trully was only 11 million. Deport them all.
“whether we like it or not, there will be millions of now-illegal people legalized by the next president”
Only if Cruz or Hillary are the next president.
The illegals can go back to their countries to apply for legal status or they can remain illegals for the rest of their lives. There is no reason to give amnesty to anyone.
I agree with the breaking of one goes much further but I was focusing on the very limited aspect of someone who just entered and did not engage in any of the freebie express but that is the least common denominator. KISS
