J F’n Kerry calls them Daesh. I think he thinks it makes him sound smart...
Perhaps, but he may be right to do so. Even a blind bird catches a worm once in a while.
As I understand it, the main reason we won WWII was because we started calling them “Krauts”. That really turned the tide. /s
I see your point.
I call them “Islamic State”. Not ISIS. Say the word “Islamic”. That most accurately conveys the worldview that drives their evil.
One person who will never use Daesh is our “president”, since they’re offended by the term.
No, Obama prefers to use ISIL, the name that grants the most territory to the terrorists and that implies Israel doesn’t exist.
He’s the only prominent person I can think of who uses that term in every case.
‘Islamic State’, I think that says it best, the religion of terrorists, started by a pedophile and frequented by goat humpers, islam.
So, how many video links do I have to click on to learn how to pronounce this?
The only thing I want to call them is dead.
I don’t care about names and insults.
French officials recently declared that that country would stop using any of those names and instead refer to the group as “Daesh.”
Whether referred to as ISIS, ISIL, or IS, all three names reflect aspirations that the United States and its allies unequivocally reject. Political and religious leaders all over the world have noted this. French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said, “This is a terrorist group and not a state. . . the term Islamic State blurs the lines between Islam, Muslims, and Islamists.”
The term “Daesh” is strategically a better choice because it is still accurate in that it spells out the acronym of the group’s full Arabic name, al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham. Yet, at the same time, “Daesh” can also be understood as a play on words — and an insult. Depending on how it is conjugated in Arabic, it can mean anything from “to trample down and crush” to “a bigot who imposes his view on others.” Already, the group has reportedly threatened to cut out the tongues of anyone who uses the term.
Why do they care so much? The same reason the United States should. Language matters.
(cleaned up for better reading)
Exactly. Who cares what Islamic State thinks of the term "Daesh"? Is the typical Freeper communicating with Islamic State members? We need to focus our fellow Americans on the real problem. Call them "Islamic State".
Or in other words "I.S." does not distinguish between Islam and political Islam.
Since there is no line between religion and politics to an Islamist, I'll stick with IS.
the term Islamic State blurs the lines between Islam, Muslims, and Islamists
“There is no radical Islam, there is only Islam” - Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan
There are no lines between Islam, muslims and Islamists, they are all obligated by their faith to seek world submission to Allah. It’s in their book.
Dead Islamic terrorists...How’s that????
We just need to go back to ‘ragheads’.
The name ISIL permits Mr. Obama to whistle while he speaks.
