I listened to Carson and here is the difference between what was reported by Politico and what actually happened.

Carson was, at a military dinner in a public place, offered a place at West Point, said he was being offered that due to his accomplishments at that time. He turned that down since he wanted to be a doctor. That is also what his book says.

It was an informal offer so there was never any paper work on it. Politico was trying to make it a legal offer with paper work and contracted West Point and there were no papers, so Politico said Carson lied about the offer, that it didn’t happen.

That is why Politico was wrong and had to admit it.

You are naive about Carson, as you will soon find out.

EXACTLY!

Carson was I'm certain talked up, and told of all the things he might do at West Point.

And in 1969, with political correctness being a new phenomenon, he WOULD have been a great candidate.

The big-wigs at the time would have told him how they would LOVE having him.

But Carson never made it some "secret" that he always wanted to be a doctor.

And he went to Yale.

He saw no reason to go military, when that's not what his ultimate goal was.

But like anyone, it's nice to be asked, or encouraged to attend West Point.

And you bet that a free ride sounded good.

So he did have a reason to boast about that.

I put this in the same realm as a baseball prospect being offered a place in the minor leagues (Son, you'll be pitching in Yankee Stadium in a few years!), but turning it down to finish college first.

Who WOULDN'T be "flattered" by such an offer?

It makes a great story to tell.

Nothing dishonest about it.

I see this as much ado about nothing. Just a liberal smear that FReepers should know better than to lap up.

Go ahead and not support Carson for whatever reasons, but please stop being a dupe who believes what the leftist media conjures up.
