Carson on the defensive over claims of past violence, pyramids
Politico ^ | 11/5/15 | NICK GASS

Ben Carson was put on the defensive on Thursday, with reporters pressing him about a series of reports that have sprung up questioning the factual accuracy of his past statements.

As Carson has gained in the polls, so has media scrutiny of the 64-year-old retired pediatric neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate, whose past and present statements have drawn no shortage of curiosity and interest.

On Thursday, during a stop on his book tour, Carson was pressed on everything from a report that questioned past claims of his physical violence toward others, an interview in which he appeared to struggle with the complexities of Cuban immigration policy in South Florida, and a rediscovered past speech in which he expressed his belief that the Great Pyramids of Giza were constructed by the biblical figure Joseph to store grain, not pharoahs' tombs.

A CNN reporter in particular tried to pry more details out of Carson after the network published a report titled "A tale of two Carsons" in which it could not corroborate the candidate's past claims in his books that he had acted violently in his childhood and adolescence toward his family and others - claims that are part of Carson's narrative of personal redemption.

Asked to be more specific about when the incidents occurred, Carson listed them in detail. "One of the ones where I threw a rock and broke someone's glasses, that occurred when I was maybe about 7 or 8, the stabbing, attempted stabbing incident occurred when I was 13 or 14, the - what's another incident? Give me another one," Carson asked a scrum of media on CNN in Miami during a book signing tour. "Trying to hit my mom in the head with a hammer? That was around the same time as the stabbing incident."

Then I guess I don’t understand what your asking.

Try again and I will too.

Well that’s true but it is about choosing the best candidate. If Carson’s goofy statements are a turn off and sign of worse things to come then don’t vote for him. He’s not my choice either but not because he believes in aliens or anything like that. I just don’t see him as a strong leader. I don’t like his views on some of issues facing our nation. My decisions about him have little to do with the goofy things he’s said but more on his statements about what he would do if he were elected. Hope that helps.

Can’t remember now if I responded to you or not. I have no problem with the vetting process - we need it to pick the best candidate for our side. There seems to have been today a concerted effort to take down Ben Carson by the drive-bys today. I guess my concern is that folks on this site seem too eager to believe what the MSM says about the candidates on our side. I’m not a Carson fan. If he lied about something in his past, I want to know about it. That’s important. I want to know about their character, about their policies and, if they have a history, does their past indicate that they do what they say or not. If someone believes something goofy, like about the pyramids, that may not have anything to do with how he would govern or about their policies. The media love to focus on these things (the goofy stuff or one’s religious beliefs) as if that makes the person out to come from Mars or something. The way people here just on this stuff as if it is gospel and a trusted source is a disturbing trend in my opinion.

We should be slow, not quick, to believe the output for the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party. We should be more inclined to check the checkers especially when it comes to Republican candidates. Carson will stand or fall based more on what his policies will be if elected, whether he has been untruthful or is soft on illegal immigration or on defense - not on what happened in Egypt 3,000 yrs. ago. He’s not my pick but it concerns me when it seem that folks on this site jump on the claims of the leftwing media against a candidate that isn’t their first choice. That’s my rant and maybe I didn’t express it so well at the beginning.

Which story should I believe?

That is my assertion. Who is “we” in “we have his quote...”?

Yes, saying wacky things is an alarm bell, but the media is made up of Democrat operatives with bylines. Be skeptical.

Wacky things being said by Trump are just one of the reasons I don’t believe he’s anything but a Trojan Horse.

Well if you weren’t such a follower you;d type in your questions to a search engine and read about a life filled with alternative action/Peter Principle, retraction, asinine statements an a while lot of other things that make is election an act of national suicide.

Because ultimately you will believe nothing of what you discover and go on demanding we waste time backing people wholly unsuited to lead us anyway.

Then we’re agreed. Trump and Carson are out. Let’s work for Cruz.

You ARE aware I have been a 100% Cruzer from the beginning right? And will remain so unless something on the order of live boys or dead girls turn up?

Just to clarify. I’m not riding Carson because I’m a Cruizer. I am riding Carson because the guy has serious issues that exclude him from conservatism, much less the Presidency.

When the press flat out lies they should be called on it. But the West Point/Pyramid arent that. The Pyramid thing he has believed for decades and the West point thing is turning into a battle of semantics. The problem with both issues is solidly the words Carson himself spoke.

Now on top of it, Carson has supposedly spoken the words that he backs TPP. Cruz is going to have some problems there but we will see how that plays out. With that said, Ted has solid conservatism to fall back on. And Carson has question marks, semantics, changed stories and confusion.

For me, all being equal, the choice is easy.

Let it go. Dr. Carson spoke at a church approximately 20yrs ago about his opinion on their use. That was the venue. Giving his opinion about a biblical account. It has nothing to do with his campaign. Can he uphold the COTUS? Does he love America? This is what should be discussed not pyrmids. The left makes issues when there aren’t any and ignore real issues. This is just plain old foolishness.

Be happy to. As soon as he stops trying to be president. Till then, not a change.

What the hell? Did it take you nine days to think of something? And suck it my comment stands, don’t call someone you don’t Know a bigot on the basis of a sarcastic comment, and when you do that, guess what twit is the least of what people like me will call you.
