The Ranger School story and it potential impact on our national security
US Defense Watch ^ | October 17, 2015 | Ray Starmann

During the last two weeks, US Defense Watch has been reporting on Representative Steve Russell’s request on September 15th for the Ranger School records of the first two female graduates, Captain Kristen Griest and First Lieutenant Shaye Haver. It is not known whether or not Congressman Russell has asked for the records for Major Lisa Jaster, who graduated today from Ranger School.

Russell’s request to Secretary of the Army, John McHugh, was at first delayed on September 24th, when McHugh asked for an extension, noting “privacy concerns” and time to compile the records together.

Nearly two weeks passed without Russell being informed when the records would be delivered to his office. When the Army finally contacted Russell they told him that many of the students’ records had been shredded.

No potential because when the group makes it to the field, God forbid, natural selection takes its natural course. No bureaucrat is going to be able to affect that outcome.

I hope that whatever Republican wins in 2016 will put an end to this PC crap in the military.<p.

A lot of the Obama appointed generals will need to be purged.

many of the students’ records had been shredded.

That I'll believe.

The paper-shredders in question don't seem all that zealous to prevent the same thing (or worse) from happening to the women themselves.

That's the difference between civilized men and pencil-necks.

Geez - there weren't any "privacy concerns" when Lois Lerner was passing out confidential IRS taxpayer records like candy in the District.

I’ve discussed this with my Ranger Nephew. When he graduated, he had me pin his tab on. But, he didn’t think anyone (regardless of gender) should be shown favoritism.

He said, he would be more concerned with homos than females.

The army is a collection of politically correct careerists at this point so to combat this, someone with, let's say, TWO stars on his shoulder need to have his career wrecked in response to this open insubordination. Maybe with some fear of personal consequenced will get back in line when it comes to congressional oversight.

It does sound strange. I know that records of promotion board deliberations are destroyed after the board is finished, but never heard the same thing happening for a school—especially Ranger School.

Obama, while dumbing down and enforcing mediocrity on everything else, has now compromised both the integrity and the standards of our greatest troops.

His seven year dump on America continues.

The average male can break the average female in half. The average very fit male can break the average very fit female in half.

37? Near impossible for a male at that age.

“Defense officials said that only the Marine Corps made a recommendation to continue to exclude women from combat infantry jobs.”

Go Marines. Women have no business in combat infantry.

Integrity and politics are basically incompatible opposites.

I get that.

So I understand why holders of the Ranger tab are really torqued that something that is intentionally meant to be hard (because lives and mission success depend on them being hard) appears to be (and probably is being) watered down to satisfy liberal concerns about “equality.”

I get that too.

So three female officers (CPT,1LT, and now a reserve MAJ) have “passed” Ranger school. What is the net practical effect?

As far as I have read, none of them has asked for or is slated for a billet in the 75th Infantry Regiment. There are no female enlisted graduates. The harpies screaming about inequality now have their graduates and the Army can claim that all combat occupations in the Army are open to women who can qualify.

Over on the Navy side, Navy Secretary Mabus has insisted that the Marines establish objective, job related standards for the combat MOSs they wanted reserved for men only. In his remarks blasting the Marine Corps for wanting an exemption to keep these MOSs closed to woman Marines, the Secretary conceded that the average woman Marine candidate cannot meet the standards set for these MOSs but countered that they should be looking for the “above average woman” who could. So the Marine Corps just issued job-based performance standards for 29 combat and combat support ground MOSs that will take effect 1 January 2016. Here is an article from the Marine Corps Times on them:

http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/story/military/2015/10/02/marines-unveil-new-gender-neutral-standards-29-jobs/73173524/

The actual standards by MOS are embedded as a download in the article.

Toward the end of the article, there is this passage about the effect that the new standards may have:

“The new requirements could be difficult for some men entering into certain MOSs as well. During the experiment, Capt. Mark Lenzi, the commanding officer of the weapons company, which consisted of machine gun, anti-armor and mortar platoons, said some male Marines aren’t up to the tasks that come with serving in the infantry.

Sometimes, he said, unit leaders are forced to give weaker Marines an administrative or clerical position in order to avoid moving them out of the unit. Gender-neutral standards would prevent that Marine from ever joining a unit with which they can’t keep up, he said.”

Going back to where this comment started, how many women soldiers are actually going to pass once the Ranger School goes back to being the Ranger School without the white hot spotlight of PC publicity focused on it? Especially when the unlimited do overs and all the other favorable treatment reported for these first three “graduates” is discontinued?

The reality is that only a very small number of women will ever be able to make it through the course at any one time. The Ranger regiment will remain overwhelmingly male.

Ranger unit training or operations are not going to be adjusted for them. That would not only be unfair, it would also introduce unnecessary risk to life and mission accomplishment. Maybe there won’t need to be any adjustment, since these women soldiers will be pretty tough customers if they really have passed the course on merit and without favoritism. However, if they turn out to be the weak link once assigned to the unit, where are these graduates going to be assigned then?
