A Jersey City school board meeting Thursday to vote on whether to close for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha on Sept. 24 turned contentious before the board ultimately decided not to close schools next week.
The Jersey City Board of Education had originally proposed to close schools next Thursday so that Muslim students could observe the holiday, and the City Council unanimously supported it a week ago. The academic year would have extended one day to June 23, 2016 as a result.

But during the nearly four hours of debate at the board meeting Thursday, some of the Jewish faith said they felt they were being discriminated against because they weren't getting their own school days off for holidays like Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
"Many of our Jewish community members are feeling left out," said parent Roy Tomargo.

Fair is fair. If those in the Jewish faith can’t have days off for their holidays, then neither should those who practice islam.
The democrats worship Islam.
They have since 9/11

I don’t know what - if anything - that has to do with the subject at hand. Is the Nae Nae some sort of muzzie boogie woogie?
That would explain things.
In the interests of fairness. if there is going to be a separation of church and state applied to schools (as in banishing any and all vestiges of Christianity), it should apply to ALL religions.
What say you, ACLU?
Can’t wait until 100,000 refugees come in and want holidays in all the schools they will soon occupy....
The answer is to adopt a policy to allow any child off for a religious observance. But it seems that Muslims use their religion as a way to wedge into the civic affairs of non-Muslims and then as a way of elbowing non-believers in a power play. That is the difference between Islam and other religions. Islam has a power-oriented mindset. It appeals to power and indeed the name in Arabic means “submit”.
This is why Islam is incompatible with liberal western democracies.
Some civilized societies do manage to accommodate large segments of believers in this faith system... but they also tend to be harsh and strict. Singapore for example. They do things in the name of keeping order that Americans probably would never countenance in a million years.
And prayer rooms and modifications to girl’s attire and changing school menus and...

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Seems fitting to deny ALL religious holidays in the schools. ALL of them. Fair is Fair.
I would advocate that government should not be schooling our children anyway. At most, government should give every parent a voucher so they can send their children to the school of their choice. Then schools may cater to whatever demographic they please and parents can respond by shopping around.
You’re certainly right on one count: they are being trafficked here to keep these schools open...
